There is almost nothing to grab and there's sticky little sharp treble hooks just waiting to embed into your fingers. Man I hate those things. 3 Quote

Nothing like watching a musky on the fringes or slightly over 50 casually swim off with your jerkbait, twice months apart. I honestly think that they are just screwing with us. I have seen a big Musky go crocodile on my wife and I and leisurely swim with its eyes out of the water past our boat. Pike at least go absolutely insane, even after or more so, when you get the lip gripper on them. A good pike bite can be a lot of fun. No leader on Pike but landed it. Turned into quite a circus act. But I got my bait back. https://youtu.be/S_Owp6ZVN0U?feature=shared&t=1359 A-Jay 1 2 Quote
Carolina Pines Posted January 2, 2024 Posted January 2, 2024 I use 832 braid tied to a 12lb FC leader. Sometimes I'll step up to 15lb leader in the fall if the lily pads are thick. I like braid for jerkbaits but you need a good glass rod with a moderate action. Finding the right rod with enough tip to work the bait, while providing enough give to keep the fish pinned is key. There's not a lot of room for error with rod selection if you're fishing them with braid. I fish 110s some, and catch some fish on them, but I throw my LC pointers a lot more often. Quote

They have the nastiest slime coat, gross, smelly, and slick, on them that is easily damaged. That said I have almost ended up with a broken wrist getting a bait out. They are probably the only fish crazier than a smallie. Great video, I got a few laughs and hope the poop cleaned up;) 1 Quote
thediscochef Posted January 3, 2024 Posted January 3, 2024 I use 20lb 832 to a leader that is less than .014 in diameter. Usually sufix siege 12lb, but also liking the tritanium plus copolymer 14# for it. Same diameter but better strength. Using a pretty floppy mojo yak rod. Gotta keep the drag a little looser to give you some of the same give/stretch benefits as straight mono. The Vision 110 at its heart is a finesse bait and does best with smaller diameter lines, lighter drag, and a bit of a pull instead of a pop like a pointer. Responsible for the only bites I've had the last couple weeks Quote

A double uni-knot to your line (any kind) and a simple uni-knot to the bait and I'm good. I use an 18 inch trace at a time, and it does make a 110 run a little deeper. But I get plenty of bass bites and don't lose the bait from being bit off. A-Jay Old thread, but I have been researching this topic. Always appreciate the tips from @A-Jay Have you ever run braid to Fluoro/mono leader, then the AFW wire ? So braid to 2 different leaders ? I like braid to fluoro/mono for jerks and top water on a M fast rod. But I loose too many baits to toothy critters up here in Ontario. Looking for a solution for next season. I’ll likely give it a try but curious if you had any experience with this given your success with the AFW tieable Quote

BassinBrett Posted Saturday at 07:15 PM Posted Saturday at 07:15 PM In MN and Wisconsin I get about 50/50 pike to Smallmouth on jerkbaits unless I am on Mile Lacs lake. Then it is almost all smallmouth with a musky once. The musky broke my MB 110 LBT. I am not sure what is worst loosing one or having it chopped. I cry on the inside to the tackle shop for a replacement. Quote
