where do you store your equipment?

I've got a question.  I currently keep all my tackle, rods, and reels inside the house.  I have a shop area built on to the back of my house that is NOT temperature controlled.  It is closed in with a door to it from my garage.  I live in Orlando Florida.  So if it is 90 degrees outside, its about 92 degrees in my shop.  If its 40 outside, its about 40 in my shop.  Would it be a bad idea to keep my equipment in this shop of mine or should i stick to keeping it in side at temperature controlled levels?

i keep all my gear inside my house as well.  That way, it never gets too hot or too cold for an extended period of time.

All of my rods and reels stay in the house. Any tackle(that I'm not tinkering with) stays in the garage.

My kids can sleep in the garage, the fishing stuff stays inside.

I keep my stuff in the garage during the warm months. My garage stays cool, proably never getting over 90 degrees. Not enough to harm anything.

But during the cold months when i'm hardly ever using my fishing stuff, i keep it in my room. (i keep it by my bed and sleep with one eye open) I doubt the cold would harm my rods or reels, I just dont want anything to scrach or break them. Our garage is pretty messy, and i wouldnt want a rod to fall over then get stomped on. 'Cuss then I'd have to kill the person who broke it.

Just remember: when it comes to fishing rods, safty first.

Man you guys are the bomb!  My old lady wouldnt put up with my tackle in the house.  I did get her to buy me a shed though, insulated, paneled with electric hook up.  I only use the a/c when Im in it though.  The Florida heat doesnt get too bad, I think because of the insulated walls and ceiling.  Ive never had mono suffer or problems with rust.

I got really lucky when we bought our house about 20 years ago.  There is a room off the garage that measures about 6' x 12' and is heated and cooled.  It is my own private domain, so I have the perfect place to store my fishing equipment and all the other neat things that men love and women hate.

Eulerentinc, I lived on the Gulf Coast of Texas for 15 years. I know people that have kept their equipment both ways. If you only use you tackle in fresh water you can probably get by keeping it in the shop as some of my friends did however if it ever sees any use in saltwater I would definitely keep it under climate control to reduce corrosion. My personal choice was under a similar circumstance to run a line off my central air to my tackle room, which was insulated, but not climate controlled to make it climate controlled.  The AC was over size for the house anyway and the AC guy said it would actually help the unit be more efficient. To my way of thinking even a small window, ac unit is cheap insurance when considered against the thousands of dollars I have in all my gear.

I'm lucky because half of the tackle is my wife's since she is a fisherwoman.

99% of my tackle and all of my regular use rods and reels are kept in my floating tackle box......the rest are kept in a closet in the house.

Lures, spools of lines, extra rods and reels, accessories, etc stay in two plastic cabinets (the ones you buy as kits from do-it-yourself shops) in my kitchen. The rods that get regular use (about 10) with their reels stay on a round rod-rack in my living-room, where they also act as a nice piece of furniture!

I actually keep my rods in the garage (which is detached from the house and gets very cold) and I take off all my reels and store them in their original boxes in the corner of the closet.  It's hard to transfer 40 rods into the house who rest in custom made rod holders built into the garage.  I never had any problems with the cold weather on the rods (but I never wanted to risk it with the reels in the cold.)
