To the ancients in the northern hemisphere, today marks Mid-Winter, the shortest day of the year. From now on, the days will get longer until mid-Summer in June. Celebrations were had for the rebirth of the Sun.

Ahh - mine would be the day after ice-out is declared...which could be anytime between middle of March and middle of May depending - though this year might be really early way things are going.

Day for me is when the sun is up...when it's not in the visible sky I call it 'night'.
