Super User WRB Posted December 20, 2023 Super User Posted December 20, 2023 Hope everyone in Maine is OK warm and dry. Tom 1 2 Quote
Super User MassYak85 Posted December 21, 2023 Super User Posted December 21, 2023 Vermont has also taken a real pounding. Hurricane Irene did a lot of damage in 2011 and they've been seeing flooding on that level more and more frequently unfortunately. Quote
Zcoker Posted December 21, 2023 Posted December 21, 2023 Best of luck to anyone who's affected by this recent storm. We got pounded by it here in south Florida. Took out most of our beaches by erosion. The neighborhood beach below used to be a nice one. Now it's completely gone! Quote
Smokinal Posted December 21, 2023 Posted December 21, 2023 Thanks guys! I ran off a generator for a few days but it could have been worse. I was talking to some people today who are still without power and not estimated to get it back until Saturday. We all lost it Monday morning pretty much. Lots of flooding around towns with rivers through them, which is many in this state. I'm glad it wasn't snow 2 Quote
Riley-Maine Posted December 27, 2023 Posted December 27, 2023 I was with out power from Monday afternoon to Friday 5:30PMish. I was also trapped. I live a 1/4 mile in the woods down a private dirt road w/ 3 houses on it. A tree fell right across my driveway blocking access to the dirt road. It was not removed until sunday morning. 2 Quote
Super User Swamp Girl Posted January 20, 2024 Super User Posted January 20, 2024 We lose power several times a year. We bought a Honda generator about 1.5 years ago, but have yet to use it, other than starting it every three weeks to keep its battery charged. Our house holds heat quite well and we've lanterns and a battery-powered radio for light and music. Thanks for thinking of us, Tom! Quote
Super User WRB Posted January 20, 2024 Author Super User Posted January 20, 2024 You need to change the gasoline about every 6 months and add Sta-Bil. Start the generator let run run a few minutes then put the old gas in your vehicle. Tom 1 Quote

You should think about hooking up a trickle charger to your generator. It’s best if a generator battery is kept at full instead of letting it run down. The Noco Genius 1 would be a good choice. Even keeping the battery well maintained, it will only last 3-4 years. Quote
Super User Swamp Girl Posted January 20, 2024 Super User Posted January 20, 2024 Thanks for the advice, @looking45. You might be right. I don't know. I'm just doing what the Honda dealer told me to do, which I'm guessing Honda told him to say. I'm thinking it's good for the engine to run every three weeks, just like it's good for a car engine to run regularly. Tom, I do add Sta-Bil. And even though I'm supposed to run the generator for 20 to 30 minutes, I'm sometimes forget it's running. It's the quiet model and it's big and burns down the gas when I forget. Quote
padlin Posted January 21, 2024 Posted January 21, 2024 How often do folks actually need to use their generator? I got my Honda in 2006 and have used it for real twice, once for a week, and another for 3 days, maybe another once or twice for a few hours each. I use it so infrequently that I leave it dry, of course I’m the autostart for it. Quote
jbmaine Posted January 21, 2024 Posted January 21, 2024 We are in a area that looses power surprising often. My genny sits with the tank empty in our walk out basement. When needed I can pull it out side, fill it up , plug it in, and have it running within minutes. It's rare not to need it two or three times a winter. Quote

JBM Bassin Posted February 6, 2024 Posted February 6, 2024 Was some of the highest water I've ever seen during that storm along the Androscoggin River... And now trying to get a hardwater bite is virtually impossible up here... Couple scattered big pike but that's about it. Usually i've gotten at least 2 or 3 smallies through the ice by now... Quote
Super User WRB Posted February 21, 2024 Author Super User Posted February 21, 2024 Sta-Bil doesn’t hurt the gasoline it simply extends it’s useful life. Without an additive gasoline goes bad in about 3 months. Tom Quote
