I took my dog back to the rescue…

Well after a a year and half of having him my wife and I decided it was time to take him back…… just for a visit so they could see the great boy he’s become! 
 

They had a toy/food drive so we loaded up a bunch of donations and River. Off we went. They could not believe the amazing transformation he has made! Hearing them say that was probably my biggest accomplishments this year. 
 

Yes, he is still with us. I wouldn’t give him up for anything and would move heaven and earth for him. We aren’t dog owners. We are dog parents he is our family. I’ve been watching to many pro anglers YouTube videos and needed a click bait title.

Man you had me going! I felt my blood start to boil a bit. Glad he’s working out. We’ve had three so far be rescues. I think we’ll continue to go that route.

@12poundbassit was a very hard go at first. He was completely out of control and scared for 6-8 months.  We couldn’t have a better more well behaved and spoiled dog now. I am taking him to bass pro today to get his picture with Santa. 
 

I am sure someone will not read this and just jump right into a rant. He has his furever home and boat right here with me.

@Susky River Rat That’s awesome 👍🏻 My family and I currently have 3 failed fosters and will only go this route from here on. Our first one took almost a year to comprehend I wasn’t like her previous owner. It was so bad at first she would hide under our bed when she heard me come home. ❤️my rescues 😃

@casts_by_fly I would love another dog. He is not the kind that would do well sharing in the house so we cannot.

mine couldn’t even care if I caught a fish. He’s more interested in everything else or sleeping. He will gladly help you with a sandwich though.

Good for you and especially for your furry companion.  We haven’t been ready for a new dog since we put our weimaraner down a couple of years ago.  He was our second weim and we really like the breed.  Now that I’m retired and my wife is getting ready to retire, maybe we will look into it.  Our first weim bonded with me and our second bonded with my wife, they each had their jobs and did them well.  It was so painful losing them that we needed time to heal.

That’s a great idea and good on you and everybody who adopts shelter dogs. My girlfriend and I have a pack of 3. They’re 14, 5, and 2 years old. I love the idea of the people they got to know at the shelter knowing what great and healthy dogs all 3 of them have become.

Do enjoy seeing everyone's canine companions; Past & Present. 

We do dogs ~

Big dogs, little dogs and some in between dogs. 

From reputable breeders, animal rescue & animal shelters.

Even do a bit of 'fostering' from time to time.

I don't feel like dogs dwell on where they're from,

but are all about where they are. 

Currently it's Tank & Kya keeping us on our toes.

A while back, we did quite a bit of this deal.

Haha.  Mine was really into the fish for about 2 months when she was a pup.  She'd get right in your grill to check out the fish.  That wore off pretty quick.

 

Food trumps everything.  If there is food, she is awake and waiting, sometimes drooling.  Bottomless pit.

 

If there is no food, she mostly just lays there and either looks around for ducks or naps.

Not Bruno.  He insists on getting to lick any fish caught.  He watches the the lure intently on every casts until it hits the water and gets as excited as I do when we get hooked up.

Dolly likes to lick most fish.  She stays away from Catfish.  I wonder if her instincts tells her to stay away from catfish fins/spines.   She loves watching birds, especially swimming birds like ducks and geese.

My rescue died a couple months ago at age 16. I still haven't recovered from that loss. They are certainly family members.

When my wife and I were looking for a dog last spring, we went to every animal shelter within 100 miles and couldn’t find a small dog. All were over 40 pounds which doesn’t fit our lifestyle

@Scott F right now the rescue I got him from has a  about 4 1.5-3 year old  mallionis which I would love one of those after him but, I know I couldn’t give one the right environment to thrive.  
 

river is a German Shepard mountain cur mix. High prey drive very smart and protective. We originally were told he was a lab golden mix till we got him DNA tested. I always told my wife he never acted like the breeds we were told.  He takes lots of stimulation and activity throughout a day. I couldn’t imagine what a Mali would take.

I have 'some' experience with that.

Quick, just so everyone knows returning your dog to the rescue, is one of the most kind things you can do for your dog if you can't keep him anymore.  My wife and I have fostered A LOT of dogs over the years.  For various reasons, many were returned dogs. 

 

Like you, I would find it inconceivable not to have my dog with me...

If you can, always adopt. The shelters here in Indy are over flowing with dogs.

 

We adopted two huskies and they have been fantastic.  They are so good, I really don't deserve them.
