When I was die hard into musky I had a note book of location, date, time, moon phase, major/minor, bait, bait color, bait depth, what structure it was caught on, lure retrieval and how big the fish was. I also added in any follows or lost fish. I do not think I’d be married anymore if I fished as much as some of you! She’s understand but, not that understanding. I do generally travel 45-60 minutes to fish. Sometimes up to 2 hours. 2 Quote

I live in Florida the fishing capital of the world and I haven’t heard much of anyone doing it, or at least with the guys I know. Probably more prevalent in freshwater fishing up north? But, hey, nothing against it! If it makes you a better fisherman, then more power to ya! I record information mostly so I can calculate catch rates and average sizes for the 40-something different places In my area that I have fished, under various conditions and times of the year. This is very useful for identifying where and when I should spend my limited fishing time. 1 1 Quote
Super User gulfcaptain Posted December 20, 2023 Super User Posted December 20, 2023 So probably 180+ days. Then again I fish for a living so every day working is a day fishing. Then when I'm off I'm still fishing. 3 Quote

I wonder if a computer, if the software were written and enough data were entered, could one day predict when and what bass would eat. Weather forecasting is so much more accurate than when I was young because computers are doing the predicting and every day, more data is fed to them, making them ever more accurate. I don't know if knowing would be a good thing. I like the guessing and failing some days to make the days I don't fail ever sweeter. I envy your 250 days, Alex. I will be soooooooo happy the day you boat your beshemoth! 1 Quote
Super User AlabamaSpothunter Posted December 20, 2023 Super User Posted December 20, 2023 Agree Katie, one would think one of these days the power of computing, weather forecasting, and predictive modeling will yield an accurate Bass fishing forecast. There is a video I just watched that uses data to make some pretty good assumptions, not with regard to weather but to baits and locations. Check YT for "25 Years of Data Reveals Best Winter Bait For Bass Fishing". 1 Quote
Super User LrgmouthShad Posted December 20, 2023 Super User Posted December 20, 2023 250 days? @AlabamaSpothunter you need to look into some tournaments 1 Quote
Super User DogBone_384 Posted December 20, 2023 Super User Posted December 20, 2023 I got out 132 times this season, and I'm probably not done yet. I target smallmouth bass most of the time, but take what I can get. I fish freshwater 90% of the time even though I live on a peninsula, 1/2 a block from the ocean where I can launch my kayak. 1 Quote
TheSwearingAngler Posted December 20, 2023 Posted December 20, 2023 Fish pictures start showing up on my phone 3/26 I imagine I went 10-15 times before 3/26… from first fish to last (11/5) I went everyday at lunch, most mornings before work, most evening after and every Saturday and Sunday… I’ve been about 15 times since 11/5 without a bite… so what’s that 250ish days?.. final answer. I fished for stocked trout a couple times.. not for me. Quote

Computer models don’t do jack when it comes to wildlife and fish they all show me their supersonic devices they bought on Amazon that scared the squirrels away….. for a couple days 1 2 Quote
Super User Boomstick Posted December 23, 2023 Super User Posted December 23, 2023 Not that many. I had a lot of stuff going on early in the year, then I ran into health issues. I did make it out a lot late in the year - and it remained warm too Quote
padlin Posted December 24, 2023 Posted December 24, 2023 This is like when my grandsons asked me how many fish I normally catch, I don’t count those either. WAG for fish is 20 WAG for times fishing is 50 I don’t ice fish so I’m done till April. Quote
OmegaDPW Posted December 24, 2023 Posted December 24, 2023 I'm at 42 right now. Started up again around 6 months ago after a few years of life getting in the way. Fishing through the winter this go-round. EW Quote

Fishin Dad Posted December 24, 2023 Posted December 24, 2023 Living in Minnesota is tough. Open water season I fished 68 days. Many seasons I add another 15 days or so of ice fishing as well. There has been some seasons with about 100 combined. Having summers off helps a lot. Quote

PBBrandon Posted December 24, 2023 Posted December 24, 2023 I usually try to go twice a week, work typically keeps me at once a week though lol. About half of those days from shore and half from the yak. So in total probably about 60-70 times. Maybe 10 of those were catfishing at my local pond and the others mostly bass/striper fishing at texoma Quote
