You'd be crazy not to jump up to a Fuego at about the same price! Fuego LT at that price is a no-brainer to me. Couple it with an Aird-X and you are well under your budget with a nice light rig that has good sensitivity! I agree with what Paul said above. If you go with lower level items already saying you don't like them, you might as well not buy them. Get the better quality reel that is marked down! Where do you see the Fuego LT for $59.99? From scheels right? Thank you I will be getting that reel. The Dobyns Maverick is only $79.99. Is the Dobyns worth the extra $20 1 Quote

I have used the Daiwa Aird and liked it better than anything in its price range, but that before the Maverick came out. One thought,.... I just noticed Fenwick released a new version of the HMG. You might look around to see if anyone is clearing out the older model. I have both of the last two HMG generations and both are pretty nice rods for the money!! I just looked and Scheels also has last generation HMG rods on clearance at $79.99, marked down from $119.99 or $129.99 I think. Nice rod for that price!! 1 Quote
Fishthunder Posted December 16, 2023 Author Posted December 16, 2023 Thank you for letting me know about the Fuego LT for $59.99. I got that and I got the Dobyns Maverick. I have no doubts about the Fuego LT, just hope I made the right decision on going with the Dobyns Maverick instead of the Aird-X. 1 Quote
Eric 26 Posted December 17, 2023 Posted December 17, 2023 @Fishthunder I know I’m late to respond and realize you’ve already made your combo purchase but I’m going to echo what @KP Duty said in buying a clearance 13 fishing omen black 3 rod. I have a fate black rod which is nowhere near as nice as the Omen black 3 rod and I love it. If you search out 13 fishing’s customer service you’ll find nothing but good reviews on that end also. I’m not sure where you bought the rod from but Tackle Warehouse is definitely offering a heck of a great deal on the 13 fishing rods in my opinion. If you’re able to open 2 tabs at the same time compare the 2 rods side by side and I fee you’ll agree the 13 fishing is a nicer rod for the same price as the Dobyns. 2 Quote
Mossman Posted December 17, 2023 Posted December 17, 2023 Which of the AIRD-X rods are you recommending for the setup? I am in a similar situation as Fishthunder, but curious if most are recommending the medium-light or medium. I really like the Dobbyns Fury line, but the 703 seems to be a little stiff and 702 might be a little light. (For a one spinning rod setup). With the AIRD-X, I could buy two for the price of the Dobyns. I will be pairing it to an Okuma Ceymar HD3000 spinning real. Quote
FrnkNsteen Posted December 17, 2023 Posted December 17, 2023 I like a 6'8" to 7' ML or M power with a fast action (Speakung in general, not just Aid-X). My Aird-X rids I used were a ML and a M. My favorite spinning rods I have right now are mainly ML, but have a handful of medium action as well. Depends what you are using them for. I use my ML for wacky rigs, small plastics, hair jigs and #3 and smaller inline spinners. Medium action are things like dropshots, shakey heads, small paddletails, etc. Quote
