Super User ChrisD46 Posted December 12, 2023 Super User Posted December 12, 2023 What new (to you) lines do you want to try this coming year ? For me , while happy with Power Pro #10 lb. mainline for Ned and other finesse tactics on spinning set ups - I want to try Nano Braid for same finesse applications for quieter operation , long casts and good quality strength . MidwestBassAttack Posted December 12, 2023 Posted December 12, 2023 Suffix 131 for me for my frogging and flipping setup Quote
garroyo130 Posted December 12, 2023 Posted December 12, 2023 Sunline Shooter 14 for jig fishing ... I just can't get myself to do it at the price point. I have never tried fluoro outside of the $1 kastking spools and that was a horrible experience, so I'm sure that may have something to do with it as well. *Edit - new to me line. I also want to try MastiffFC or whatever the Shimano offering is. Quote

JN94 Posted December 13, 2023 Posted December 13, 2023 Any of the Fins braids. I just ordered their infinity braid and have cast it around in a small pond. Haven't been able to really test it. Anyone have any experience with Fins? Quote

I believe YGK braids are sinking built for bottom presentations ? Not sure it makes much difference in #10 Ib. - #15 lb. braid size but a finesse sinking braid could be a good thing for Neg rigs . Both these lines float for the most part. I also have Ohdragon x4 on some spinning gear and this line has a higher specific gravity (1.40+). It sinks like a rock and is great for Ned Rigs. Quote

Super User Columbia Craw Posted December 16, 2023 Super User Posted December 16, 2023 I’m with Dwight. The 131 has been impressive. I have two setups with 30 and one with 40 lb. and couldn’t be happier. I might try that Gukeden or however you spell it. We shall see. Quote

Isn't R18 is the same line as Tatsu? I have tried a couple series from YGK braids, very impressed by their slickness, not so much by their abrasion resistance. 8 hours ago, Columbia Craw said: I’m with Dwight. They have a budget version (Bass), a long cast version (Hunter Tact), high vis (Yellow), hard (Hard Expert), and a premium line (Fluoro LTD). Between Seaguar Tatsu and the R18 I have, they do feel and look different but I can't really describe it yet from an on the water perspective. They R18 LTD seems harder and slicker but yet it's limper and it seems heavier. We will see how it performs next year. Also, I haven't experienced any abrasion resistance issues with YGK yet. In general, most X8 lines don't hold up as well as the X4 versions but that's not always the case. Super Jigman holds up pretty well in the X4 but the X8 casts better, while Ultra X8 is supposed to be more abrasion resistant. 1 Quote
Woody B Posted December 17, 2023 Posted December 17, 2023 I'll get laughed out of this thread (that's OK) but every time I try new line I end up going back to Big Game. I reluctantly have Sufix 832 on my "heavy stuff" combo. I change my big game every 3 weeks. I don't use my combo with braid much, but the line on it is a year old. I tried some high dollar fluoro on my bottom contact combo. I didn't hate it, but can't see spending what it cost compared to big game. 1 Quote

softwateronly Posted December 18, 2023 Posted December 18, 2023 I just spooled up 2 alphas 800s w/ varivas 8 in pe# 1.2 and got a few outings in with it. Great casting and handling, so far so good. scott Quote

I was changing line about the same amount. At that time I switched to Yo Zuri hybrid but then something changed with it and I went to Invizx. I would change line about once a year or maybe two. I then tried Tatsu. I had it on my main jig and worm set up for 4 years before the spool started to get low and i finally put some new line on. It stayed good but still pricey. I wouldn't buy it at regular price. I branched out to other lines since but by the time you consider what other lines costs compared to how BG holds up, changing it every three weeks and my time changing it and buying it, it's worth the cost to move on. Plus once it goes bad, it only takes me one or two lures lost on BG to justify the cost for me and if I loose a fish (which happened a lot on this line), I might loose my cool 😎. Again, it doesn't mean that it's bad line. It just doesn't hold up for me and it's not worth the risk. I have better luck with 5lb Sunline Invisible than 12lb Big Game. Quote

Tackleholic Posted December 18, 2023 Posted December 18, 2023 I've been loyal to 15# Berkley 100% fluorocarbon for a long time, both for leaders and mainline. I recently bought a single spool of Sunline Sniper 16# to compare, but have not yet tried it. Can anyone tell me what to expect with the comparison? Quote
