Susky River Rat Posted December 7, 2023 Posted December 7, 2023 My dog took about 8 months to come out of his shell. It was very hard on all of us. He cowered, paced, panted for a long time. He had so much distrust for humans. So scared of everything. (Still Is at times). It also didn’t help we thought we had a lab golden mix when we rescued him. Turned out he’s a German Shepard mountain cur mix. Which explains a lot about him. A year and half later he’s an amazing dog. He deserves every ounce of love, food and every belly rub he gets. 5 Quote
Eric 26 Posted December 7, 2023 Posted December 7, 2023 My girl Beauty was obviously mentally scarred by whatever male had her before us as she wouldn’t come near me for months. After she realized I’m not as mean as she thought I was she became my favorite walking partner before we rescued our boy Steve and inherited my MIL’s dog . 2 Quote
Super User Koz Posted December 8, 2023 Super User Posted December 8, 2023 The dog I have now had been given up twice for adoption and we could tell right away he had been mistreated and was wary of us. That was 11 years ago and what I have now is a "Velcro dog." If I go to the living room he follows me there. If I go to my office he heads to my office. But now what he really loves is going outside and sitting on the dock. He's perfectly content to sit by me while I fish and he never complains when I take just one more cast. When he sees me load up my kayak he'll sit beside it and stare, so the other week I bought him a life jacket and when the water warms up in the spring I'll bring him out with me. My Sportsman Autopilot has a ton of room so I'll set up one of his dog beds and see how he likes it out there. 5 Quote
