Brycecover Posted December 6, 2023 Posted December 6, 2023 So I have a tatula 100, haven’t used yet so I’m not sure how it will cast light lures so if you have input on that it would be great. I need a reel that can cast down to 1/4 an ounce well. I’ve been looking at shimano slx mgl and curado mgl to get as well, but I’ve heard a few people on here mention digitaka. What reels on there would you recommend? Seems like good deals 21 hours ago, Brycecover said: So I have a tatula 100, haven’t used yet so I’m not sure how it will cast light lures so if you have input on that it would be great. Looking at the scorpion mgl and curado mgl and curado k right now. But I’ve also considered dc options like the slx dc. What do you guys recommend? Would a dc feel be better? Or I could get another Daiwa like the 150 Quote
PBBrandon Posted December 6, 2023 Posted December 6, 2023 The Tatula 100 should cast down to 1/4oz. That’s as low as I’d go with it though. Digitaka has really good prices because of the current exchange rate between the USD and the JPY. There are slight differences between the US and Japanese models (handle length, gear material, spool depth) but otherwise it’s the same reel for a lot less. If you find casting 1/4oz to be difficult on the Tatula, the Daiwa Alphas SV is a phenomenal reel for lighter stuff, and can be had from Japan for $160 4 Quote

Maybe the scorpion instead of buying a curado mgl and save myself $20. Quote
FrnkNsteen Posted December 6, 2023 Posted December 6, 2023 Be careful on the JDM Scorpion MGL from Japanese dealers like Digitaka or others. If I recall correctly, it is not the same as the Curado MGL. I believe the JDM Scorpion MGL is built on the Curado 200 K frame, which is significantly larger in size. Personally, I am not a fan of of the Curado 200 K, but love the smaller Curado MGLs in both the 150 and the 70 size. I use lefty reels and have a couple 151 MGLs and one 71 MGL. For the record though, I have 4 SLX MGL 71 reels and like them every bit as much as the Curado 71, and they are significantly cheaper. I have gotten my SLX MGLs as cheap as $90 in excellent condition used from ALF. Quote

Just looking for a cheaper option then the curado mgl at 180-190 on some sites. Quote

I have heard the Curado 200 K can be finicky, and I have no experience with the Scorpion MGL to know if it is better. Quote
newapti5 Posted December 6, 2023 Posted December 6, 2023 I put a Scorpion MGL spool in my Curado K. It casts 3/8oz jerkbaits much better. Quote
Super User WRB Posted December 6, 2023 Super User Posted December 6, 2023 Any decent 100 size bait casting reel today will cast 1/8 oz so 1/4 oz is well within it’s performance. Tom 2 Quote
ne_dan Posted December 6, 2023 Posted December 6, 2023 I have a Tatula 100, casts a 1/8oz tube jig and a 2.75” tube just fine. Just use mojo while you’re getting it dialed in; which shouldn’t take long at all. What rod are you using? Quote

I use it for everything from light tubes, light top waters like spooks and popper and 3/16 and 1/8 spinnerbaits when I’m wade fishing rivers. I’ll also use it for small cranks and jerk baits when fishing from a kayak. I usually have 10lb mono on it. If you’re not intending on returning the reel I’d at least try it. I also have a Scorpion MGL, I like it but it’s on my jig rod (3/8-1/2oz plus trailer), I wouldn’t really want to be throwing light weight stuff with it. Daiwa really has the fine control down for lighter baits. Quote

So I returned my tatula 80 it made weird noises while casting and didn’t cast far at all it was used and something was definitely wrong, I got a tatula 100 that comes in Friday. So now I’m just deciding for another reel addition since I also sold my slx xt. I’m considering the scorpion mgl, slx dc, curado mgl, or a daiwa 150. I want one with more line capacity since my tatula 100 will throw my lighter stuff. Both the reels I have now(lews Mach 1 and lews lfs) have held up decently well but I want something nicer Quote

Took the spool out and put Shimano oil on the bearings and smoothed it out Quote
