Woody B Posted December 5, 2023 Posted December 5, 2023 It seems like I've seen this thread a thousand times. It's my turn for Covid. I had pink eye last Thursday, I wonder if that was the start of it. Friday I had congestion and a cough that's steadily gotten worse. I can still taste stuff, but I've got an almost strep throat level sore throat. My chest and abdomen are sore from coughing. I "could" work, but I work with a few people with multiple health conditions. I'd hate to give it to them, knowing I have it. I don't have a fever, but I'm taking Tylenol for my throat pain. I suspect that's keeping the fever away. Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted December 5, 2023 Super User Posted December 5, 2023 I have yet to get it everyone in the house has had it I’ve showed symptoms same time gone for tests and done the home test never have came back positive. Guy at work had it last week he just wore a mask when was in the vault with people but kept on working. I guess fiancés aunt and cousins had it when we were there for thanksgiving but none of us are sick following being around them. Kids had a stomach bug but that was it. Quote
Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted December 5, 2023 Global Moderator Posted December 5, 2023 You’ll kick it @Woody B, just rub some catfish slime on it. 2 3 Quote
Skunkmaster-k Posted December 5, 2023 Posted December 5, 2023 Sorry to hear that. Hopefully you’ll be 100% really soon. Good luck and Godspeed. Quote
Woody B Posted December 5, 2023 Author Posted December 5, 2023 I'm doing OK. I've got O negative blood and it's my belief that's the type that tolerates Covid the best. Dr told me to take Mucinex. My throat is quite a bit better. I have no energy at all. Some of that probably has to do with sitting around all day doing nothing. I had a fever of 101 a short time earlier in between doses of Tylenol. Due to my faith, fear doesn't play a part in my life....but my heart rate increased a little with the positive result. I lost a cousin I was real close to ,as well as a couple friends to Covid. So far I've kept the bait monkey at bay. 4 Quote
RipzLipz Posted December 5, 2023 Posted December 5, 2023 @Woody B Sorry to hear that. Probably from all those spots. Hope you make a full recovery soon. Both of my parents had it back near the end of October while on vacation in CO. Dad only had sinus drainage & worn out feeling bit developed a cough. Mom had very sore throat & also run down feeling. They were given meds from UC medical center & made full recovery in a couple of weeks. Dad still has the cough though oddly enough. Quote
looking45 Posted December 5, 2023 Posted December 5, 2023 Hope you get well fast. people have to understand COVID is still around and they still need to be cautious. When I go to the store, it’s only me and a couple of people wearing masks. RSV is going around too. You cant be too careful 1 Quote
Super User Log Catcher Posted December 6, 2023 Super User Posted December 6, 2023 My wife and I both had Covid just about a month ago. I felt like I had a bad sinus infection. The wife just had a little bit of a sore throat and a little bit of a rough sounding voice. We weren't allowed to come to the doctors office. They talked to us over the phone. They had me take Paxlovid but the wife didn't have to take it. I never lost me sense of taste or smell and my temp never got too high. We had gotten the latest Covid booster shot about two weeks before that. We had gone fishing the day before I got it and felt fine all day. Guess the fish are getting even with me. Quote
Woody B Posted December 7, 2023 Author Posted December 7, 2023 I went back to work today. They have no Covid policy now. Until earlier this year you were sent home (with pay) for a minimum of 10 days. I don't mind working but had I been sent home for 10 days that would have been 8 days or so of fishing. I'm thankful mine was no worse than it was. I never lost taste or smell, beyond what I considered normal with the sinus stuff I had going on. One thing I have noticed is sensitivity to light. I've got dark colored eyes.......not very sensitive to light. The only time's I normally reach for sunglasses is if there's bright Sun with snow on the ground (rare here) or if I'm on the lake and the Sun is bright, but at a fairly low angle. I put my sunglasses on today pretty much ever time I went outside. It might just be clear blue skies and the low December angle of the Sun though. I'm tired. I do quite a bit of walking at work. Most is up or down a hill. I just checked my step counter. 12,000+ and the equivalent of 16 flights of stairs. This is a little less than my average day. I'm not very hungry...don't have my normal appetite. Maybe I'll lose a few pounds by the time this is over. Quote
Super User gim Posted December 8, 2023 Super User Posted December 8, 2023 I'm fairly surprised when people say this is the first time they've had covid. Its pretty astonishing to me that someone could completely avoid a highly contagious airborne virus floating around for years. I guess a guy could have had it and just been asymptomatic too. @Woody B make sure you stay hydrated. If you don't have your full appetite, you aren't going to be eating as much, and a lot of food you normally would eat has your daily intake of water in it. You need to replace that with another source of hydration. Quote
Super User Jar11591 Posted December 8, 2023 Super User Posted December 8, 2023 @gimruis my girlfriend and I are those people, and I don’t understand it. We’re the only ones we know that haven’t had it, and most people we know have had it multiple times. And it’s not like we don’t test ourselves if we’re exposed or get any symptoms. I don’t get it, but I’ll take it! 2 Quote
DaubsNU1 Posted December 8, 2023 Posted December 8, 2023 Rest up @Woody B! Exposed to covid first weekend of deer season in 2020. Found out the Monday after that one of my hunting buddies tested positive. My wife was livid. I was bound and determined to head west that Wednesday with my brother to chase mule deer. Tuesday night before I left, wife got frisky. : ) Wednesday morning kissed her good bye as she headed to work @ 6 AM...I got quick covid test at 8 AM that day...negative...called wife...she said get the long test...okay. Results due back in three days. So, I packed up the truck, ATV's, and headed west with my Brother. Got settled in to the hotel around 7 PM, slept good until around midnight...woke up freezing and could not get warm(!). Cranked the heater and shivvered myself to sleep. Woke up at 3 AM sweating like a dog...threw all the covers off...by time brother knocked on my door @ 5AM I was feeling like crap. Tossed my keys at him and said, "shoot a big one." He did. I started feeling a little better around dinner time. Next morning (Friday) I knocked on his door, this time he was feeling like crap...so I hunted (and shot a nice one!). Saturday I got the call my covid test was positive. I hunted Saturday, we drove home Sunday...wife quarantined me in the basement for a week. I felt tired, lost my sense of smell for about a month...but aside from that first night...it was very manageable. Funny thing is, my wife is a nurse practicioner...kissed my face night before, and just hours before I tested...she never got it. Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted December 8, 2023 BassResource.com Administrator Posted December 8, 2023 Neither my wife, nor I, nor my sister, or brother-in-law has had it. Knock on wood. But we ignore the political rhetoric about covid, and all the associated misinformation about it and vaccines. We simply get our vaccines and follow CDC guidelines. Nothing more to it than that. Seems to do the trick. I get my booster next Monday. 2 Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted December 8, 2023 Super User Posted December 8, 2023 ^ I follow science - not rhetoric....so yes, I got vaccinated, I follow the guidelines, I get my boosters and while I did get it...it was a mild case that went away inside of a week. 1 Quote
Super User N Florida Mike Posted December 8, 2023 Super User Posted December 8, 2023 Hope you’re back to normal soon @Woody B. I had all the symptoms in Jan. of 22. Included loss of taste. Took the test and it said negative. Doc put me on antibiotics and I was fine by the end of the week. Got my taste back the 4 th day. my best friend died fom it…😕 1 Quote
Woody B Posted December 8, 2023 Author Posted December 8, 2023 Thanks for all the responses. I'm staying hydrated. I used to drink way to much alcohol. Like many former drinkers by habit I have a glass of water or tea in my hand pretty much anytime I'm awake. It's been water lately, Dr told me to avoid caffeine if possible. Regarding having Covid before. Since 2020 I've taken a few Covid tests due to exposure, but haven't been sick, or tested positive. Mrs B had the same symptoms 1 1/2 weeks ago as I've had this week but tested negative. My test took less than a minute to show positive. My Daughter, Son in Law and both of my Grandsons have had it. So here's the big question? Could I have had Covid back in September 2019? I had a cough, severe headache, a slight fever and strep throat level sore throat. I went to an urgent care. Negative on the strep test, negative on a flu test. They said "You have some kind of lung virus, it will just have to run it's course" and advised me to take Mucinex. I lost sense of taste after my throat, cough and fever got better. I give blood on a routine basis. For a while the Red Cross was testing donations for Covid antibodies (or something like that) During the middle of the pandemic I had donated blood and got a report that my blood had covid antibodies. This was before any vaccine was available so the antibodies weren't a response to an vaccine. The ONLY time I had any kind of sickness was in Sept 2019. My Dr said I was probably exposed to the virus (in 2020, after it was "here") enough to develop an immune response, but not enough to develop symptoms. Quote
Super User gim Posted December 8, 2023 Super User Posted December 8, 2023 2 hours ago, Woody B said: So here's the big question? Could I have had Covid back in September 2019? No, it didn't even exist until November 2019 in China. There's obviously lots of crossover symptoms when you get covid, influenza, strep throat, and a common cold. It affects everyone differently. I didn't get it until early Dec 2021. Lasted about 5 days. Was very intense, recovered at home. I'm pretty young and I'm pretty healthy. Its easy to see how someone who's older and not as healthy could have a serious complication from it after what I went through. Quote
Super User Dwight Hottle Posted December 8, 2023 Super User Posted December 8, 2023 My wife & I both got vaccinated early on based on age over 65 then had two bosters shots. We never got covid until about 2 years later. We both had relatively mild symptoms which were gone after 5 days. I didn't take any medicine for it but my wife took Paxlovid and it did lessen her symptoms compared to mine. My take is it affects people much differently based on your general health & immune system. Quote
Skunkmaster-k Posted December 8, 2023 Posted December 8, 2023 I personally know quite a few people that had all their shots and still died of covid. It’s no joke. 1 Quote
Super User islandbass Posted December 8, 2023 Super User Posted December 8, 2023 Sorry to hear you got it. Pink eye is one of the symptoms for covid now. it seems to affect everyone differently. My wife got it twice despite being vaxed, and she gave it to me. All I had was sniffles, but I’ll tell you this. If I didn’t get tested back then (July 2020) I would not have known I was positive and would have gone about my business unknowingly spreading the virus, while thinking I only had a cold. my kids got hit pretty hard and my mother in law who has a million co-morbidities over age 80 had zero symptoms when she tested positive. A true asymptomatic! Go figure. I have taken care of people with it and that’s that. No ill effects. I jokingly say I’m now super immune, lol. Quote
Super User Jigfishn10 Posted December 8, 2023 Super User Posted December 8, 2023 I did my tour with covid and I don't wish it on anyone. Good luck and get well. Quote
Woody B Posted December 8, 2023 Author Posted December 8, 2023 My cousin who died from Covid was 1 year older than me. Right before contracting Covid he was diagnosed with Diabetes. His Diabetes was truly uncontrolled, and I believe that's what made Covid deadly for him. He had been vaxed, but only a month or so before getting Covid. He was on a ventilator for almost a month before he passed. His official cause of death was blood clots caused by Covid. An 91 year old hunting/fishing friend of mine, who had pretty severe COPD had covid and never received any kind of treatment. His Dr told him to monitor his oxygen, if it got under a certain level to call 911. He was better within a week. This was before the vaccine was available. He passed away earlier this year due to a heart attack in his sleep. Mrs B and myself had the J&J vaccine, and 1 booster. We decided when they started talking about more boosters we weren't going to do any more. My hunting/fishing friend who's a retired Doctor recommended the first shots. Now he won't comment either way. He says everyone needs to make their own decision. Had I gotten another booster would that have kept me from getting Covid? That's impossible to answer. Had I never gotten any vaccine, would my illness have been worse? Again, impossible to answer. My Dad's girlfriend just got out of the hospital with Covid. She's 88, and had all her vaccines and boosters. According to her she wasn't very sick. I suspect she was hospitalized due to her age, more than her condition. Mrs B and myself are 2 of the last people I know of to get it......or to not have had it. My Dad hasn't had it. My Sister as well as her husband and daughter have had it. All of Mrs B's siblings have had it as well as our daughter, son in law, and both grandsons. I believe that most, or all of the people who for whatever reason were going to die, or come close to death because of it have already had it. It's really amazing to me how it affects some people differently that others. I suppose many illnesses are that way though. Thought and prayers for everyone's health, as well as thanks for all the thoughts and prayers concerning mine. Condolences to everyone who's lost anyone to Covid or any other illness. 1 Quote
