SC vs Loomis rod power

I’m narrowing down spinning rod choices. 
is there much of a difference between the SC LE medium vs the Loomis medium. I think SC’s medium is rated up to 5/8 but Loomis shows 3/8 for the GLX.

Hey CC, a St. Croix Medium is much more powerful. I have fished and own both. The Loomis 842S for instance can toss up to 3/8 oz. and I have fished with 1/2 oz. but that is pushing it. The St. Croix can easily throw 1/2 oz. The Loomis is almost a ML or ML + if that makes sense. The 842S is a favorite for sure though. It's very versatile.

Only way you're going to really know is to measure them for CCS numbers.  What lengths are you considering?  Seems that's pretty important to a comparative discussion.

I’m not sure what css numbers are but I’m mainly looking at 7’ medium fast and 6’10” extra fast

I have a few from St. Croix and a few from Loomis. You really can't go wrong with either one. But.... what do you intend to use it?

 

I find that most St. Croix rods are a fuzz more powerful than Loomis when comparing them at the same rating.  Personally,  I like Loomis' spinning rods in the NRX line but I find the St. Croix 7' M Fast LE casting to be my go to senko rod. Also, I feel St. Croix XF rods to be a little stiffer than Loomis' XF rods but that also depends on the rod and the length.

St Croix is having a store wide 30%-50% sale now if money is a factor.

Primarily it will be a bottom contact rod dragging jigs and tubes for river smallmouth but would see some jerkbait duty, primarily 110 juniors. Unfortunately, the nrx is out of my price range but the SC LE and GLX are doable

The problem is that Loomis and SC and all others have their own SUBJECTIVE ratings for power and action, and they don't correlate with each other's ratings.  The only way to know what you are going to get is to compare OBJECTIVE numbers on power and action.  While not all blanks and rods are included in the data base I provided, you can set up your own tools to measure yourself.  Then the further you go into this rabbit hole the more knowledgeable you are, and the more confident in what you purchase.  Not a perfect world.  If  you need help in setting up a CCS rig, let me know.

Depends on the model within Loomis like say a conquest feels more powerful to me than a NRX.  Overall though I would say a Croix medium is typically more powerful than a Loomis.  Like Fishtank said it also has to do with length that 6'10" MXF being shorter feels like it gets into its power quick.

If you're talking about at the St Croix Factory Store, it doesn't appear to be store wide. I was just there and it appearsvto only be on retired rods, BassX, Mojo, Mojo Glass, Avid and Wild River.

 

Mojo and Avid selling for $120, which is same as other vendors closing out the old Mojo rods to make room for the new.

 

I looked and different Legend series and they seemed to be at regular price.

I just notice g Loomis had a medium heavy imx pro spinning rod rated 1/8 to 7/16 oz in extra fast
