Justbass11 Posted December 2, 2023 Posted December 2, 2023 I bought 2 xps football jugs yesterday and was wondering how many of us use xps baits? I know there bps baits but still they still seem to be ok. I myself do buy them on a regular basis but not all the time. So if you do use them. What do you like and dislike about them? 2 Quote
ghost Posted December 2, 2023 Posted December 2, 2023 My favorite and best shallow crankbait is the XPS The Egg. Comes in 2 sizes and just flat out catches fish. I've used them as a wake bait and just under the surface. Unfortunately, I think BPS discontinued this lure. It was on clearance for $2.97 and I bought about a dozen for back ups in both sizes. I do hope BPS bring back the The Egg. 4 Quote
GRiver Posted December 3, 2023 Posted December 3, 2023 I use BPS baits a lot. @ghost I too like the egg, great wake bait. Their plastics are good too. 2 Quote
Super User WRB Posted December 3, 2023 Super User Posted December 3, 2023 Any jig is only as good as the hook. Tom 3 Quote

I use that myself but I think there's another one very similar called the XPS Super Shallow Crankbait that I'm using now. My favorite shallow river lure is the discontinued Storm Subwart and the XPS crank baits are the closest thing I've found to it. At $4.99 each, its a pretty freaking good deal too. 1 Quote
rgasr63 Posted December 3, 2023 Posted December 3, 2023 I always keep their plastic worms in my tackle pack. I have several square bills and floating jerk baits that are bass pro branded. Most everything I have bought from them has worked great. 2 Quote
ElGuapo928 Posted December 3, 2023 Posted December 3, 2023 I’ve got quite a few of their hardbaits, and have never had any issues with them. 1 Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted December 3, 2023 Super User Posted December 3, 2023 I use the Lazer Eye spinnerbaits, and buzzbaits quite a bit. They seem to hold up pretty well. I started fishing with The Egg a few years ago and was really surprised how well it caught bass. 2 Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted December 3, 2023 Super User Posted December 3, 2023 I've got several XPS Squarebills. They've held up to bouncing the bottom and off rocks for a few seasons now. Paint is a little scuffed but that's all. 1 Quote
volzfan59 Posted December 3, 2023 Posted December 3, 2023 BPS had two lines of baits, mainly the hard baits when I worked there. The XPS line are really good, well made lures. The other, cheaper XTS line is fair at best. I would always advise customers to immediately change the hooks if they purchased them as they were junk. I own several XPS lures, mainly some jerk baits, Eggs and a few more, they're all fine. I've also got some jigs and BPS hooks, all great. When I was there, most of the bass style hooks were made by Mustad. 2 Quote
r83srock Posted December 4, 2023 Posted December 4, 2023 The Stik-O is my go to soft stick bait. I like the 3” for Ned’s, the 5” for t-rig and wacky and 6” for flipping. I use XPS walking baits and have some lipless too. I’ve bought a bunch of jigs and they work just fine too. I generally only buy this stuff when it’s on sale though. 3 Quote
MAN Posted December 4, 2023 Posted December 4, 2023 I have plenty off BPS hardbaits and plastics. The plastics are fine....kinda hard to mess up a soft plastic. The hardbaits have 2 tiers with the better having more intricate paint jobs, better hooks and batch tank tested. The cheaper ones also work fine if you are not a tournament fisherman or trying to catch your double digit. Just lesser grade hooks and basic paint jobs and not tank tested. 2 Quote
detroit1 Posted December 4, 2023 Posted December 4, 2023 I don't have any of their hardbaits, but do have some of their tubes, worms, creatures, and last year they had boottails (speed shad?) in 4 lengths and good color selection buy 4 pks. and get 1 free. Quote
Super User Munkin Posted December 4, 2023 Super User Posted December 4, 2023 Their hardbaits I have tried were average in terms of comparing them to other brands. Nothing set the world on fire but all worked and caught fish. Now the EWG hooks were the worst hooks I ever used period. Normally if something doesn't work for me I just give it away. Those hooks either bent out on 12" fish, points were dull, and or missing the barb on half. Threw them in the trash so nobody else would feel the frustration I had. Allen 2 Quote
rgasr63 Posted December 11, 2023 Posted December 11, 2023 I had trouble with the hooks also. I had a pack of 3/0 and 4/0 ewg hooks I bought at the same time. 3/0 worked out fine but the 4/0 hooks would cut my line. It had a sharp edge on the hook eye on just about all of the hooks in the pack. I went to Walmart and replaced them with some Eagle Claws and I have never bought that hook line ever again. Quote
FrnkNsteen Posted December 11, 2023 Posted December 11, 2023 Please don't take this wrong,... I'm not nearly as critical as this may come across, but I use very little XPS brand product. The reason is I have grown increasingly frustrated with BPS/Cabelas carrying less and less name brand product while they copy everyone else's baits and fill their stores more and more with their own proprietary brands. I prefer to pay more to support the brands that do their own research and development. I mainly buy crankbaits from Rapala, Berkley, Strike King, Spro,.....or other newer startup companies trying to get a start. I buy Strike King jigs, but have also been buying from Sieberts, Dirty Jigs and other smaller companies. Plastics are from the big name brands, but also smaller companies our local shop carries. I just find that BPS just has been having less and less things that interest me and would rather support other companies that continue to give us new options. 2 Quote

It seemed that tackle with their brand name usually had been cheapened in quality, one way or another. For example, the lures came with low grade hooks. Quote
MAN Posted December 12, 2023 Posted December 12, 2023 I try to also buy local where/when possible. But I also understand the benefits of Bass Pro and other large retailers private label brands as they provide all the styles of baits for someone to try/use who may be on a very fixed or tight income and otherwise would not be able to afford name brand. 2 Quote
