Super User FishTank Posted November 28, 2023 Super User Posted November 28, 2023 Is it worth it? My seat on my Hobie PA14 is pretty comfortable but at the end of the day my rear end starts to hurt. I've tried a stadium cushion but it just doesn't fit well. What have you guys used? Quote
Super User Bankc Posted November 28, 2023 Super User Posted November 28, 2023 Heck no it's not worth it! 85 bucks for a foam pad? You can get those all day, every day for $20-30 without the Hobie name on it. Though, really, unless you're hitting the bars below the webbing in your seat, it's probably not a cushion problem. It's probably more of an issue of remaining in the same position for too long without moving and getting some blood circulation. The kayak seat position is especially bad because your feet are about level with your seat, so blood pools up in your rear end. It's the same reason why it hurts your feet more to stand still and not move than it does to walk. You probably just need to get that blood circulating more often, somehow. Quote
Super User Choporoz Posted November 28, 2023 Super User Posted November 28, 2023 Absolutely worth it. I have three or four....none were anywhere near $85. But I did spend over $85 trying other cushions because I thought Kayak Kushion was too expensive. I have never once heard a KK owner say they wished they saved a few bucks and got something different. 2 Quote
MeatHead1313 Posted November 28, 2023 Posted November 28, 2023 I use one on my Hobie Outback and love it, especially on days when it's a little too rough for me to be able to stand and stretch easily. 1 Quote
padlin Posted November 28, 2023 Posted November 28, 2023 Another option. Canoe here, got where I could only manage a couple hours sitting so I tried several types, stadium, 2 thicknesses of hunting seats, and a memory foam, they all slipped around and all worked okay for butt pain to some extent, the thinner ones were just so so. Ended up with a 2” Purple seat cushion, they come in a variety of thicknesses. Has a grippy covering on the bottom and doesn’t slide. You’d have to measure to see if one would fit the yak. About the same $ as the Kushion, mine is well worth the money to me as I imagine the Kushion would be as long as it works. Most of these I had from trying to make the truck seat more comfortable when doing long trips with the camper. 1 Quote
Gera Posted November 28, 2023 Posted November 28, 2023 Did you guys got the original or firm?? I got the firm and I don't know if it was the right choice. Quote
Super User Choporoz Posted November 28, 2023 Super User Posted November 28, 2023 Haven't tried 'firm' Quote

Zcoker Posted November 29, 2023 Posted November 29, 2023 Original here. One of the best investments I made for my yak is the Kayak Kushion. I can easily spend all night or all day (and sometimes both) sitting in my kayak and with the Kushion I have zero issues. I’ve had it for just over two years now with hundreds of hours of fishing. No sign of wear & tear. I tried other cheaper options that I laugh at now lol The Kushion was $50 when I purchased mine, so a $15 bump isn’t too bad. Just like every other quality product out there, gonna go up in price sooner or later. Even at $65, you still get what you pay for with the Kushion, imho. 1 Quote

It was on my door step this morning. I have to admit, out of the box, it's not that impressive. I will just have to use it to find out. Quote

Unless they changed materials or workmanship, the quality always appeared fine to me, very top grade, all very robust. And, like I said, I've been grinding away on mine for many years, fighting giant bass all over south Florida in all kinds of crazy conditions and the Kushion is still as good as new. Hope it works out for you. 1 Quote

Super User FishTank Posted December 3, 2023 Author Super User Posted December 3, 2023 So I was able to get on the water today and try it out. It's not bad. Better than I thought it would be. I did need to adjust my seat a little but otherwise, I was comfortable all day. I just wish the fish were biting better. 1 Quote
FishTax Posted December 3, 2023 Posted December 3, 2023 I use a cushion I originally bought for my desk chair. The actual cushion is silicone, not foam, so I'm not worried about it getting wet. It was a Amazon purchase, very affordable, very comfortable to me. I'm on an old town kayak and this has made a huge difference for me. 1 Quote

When I was shopping around, most talked about it as if an industry standard, tried and proven. So I got it and have been comfortable ever since. Quote
Super User Boomstick Posted December 5, 2023 Super User Posted December 5, 2023 I got a cheaper one for my kid, in the $30-40 range. It’s a little big and bulky but helps but the more compact kayak kushion does seem like it would be a better option but costs significantly more too at $60 a pad so $120 if you want one for your back Quote
