Just bought a Megabass Destroyer P5 Flyssa and wondering what reel to pair with it. A have a Vanford’s on my P5 Addermine because they balance really well together, but wondering if something heavier would be better balanced since the rod is 7’6”. Thinking a Sustain FJ 3000? Maybe stick with Vanford and bump up a size? Any suggestions?

I'd go with a 4000 size Vanford, personally. Next year I want to upgrade my do-everything spinning combo to an 872S and that's the reel I'm looking at. The 2500 balances well on the drop shot rod, but feels small on bigger spinning rods.

I would go with a 2500 Vanquish. Only held a few P5 spinning rods but own several P5 casting. They tend to have shorter handles and seem to be butt heavy to me with heavier reels but its definitely a personal preference. I would check out a few videos from The Hook Up Tackle.  They have several videos on the subject.

Oddly enough they don’t have a lot of videos on this rod specifically. On the one video they mentioned it, they just suggested a 300 or even 400 size, which isn’t helpful because weights range so drastically between models.

They all have a weight inserted at the very butt, but to me that’s actually why the rods balance so well. Maybe I should stick to 2500 like you said, but go with a model heavier than the Vanford? With the 2500 Vanford on it, the rod is just a little tip heavy.

I am also trying to use a gift card I recently got, so JDM isn’t my first choice. Any thoughts on the Twin Power or Sustain? Something else entirely?

It's been years ago but I had a Sustain and sold it. I have always regretted it. It was smooth, a little heavy but a real workhorse. I have not picked up the Twin Power. They it's almost equal to the Stella.

To be honest, I don't think there is much difference in a 2500 and 3000 on some Shimano reels. Depending on the reel, the spool size might be the only difference and the weight is pretty much the same.  I don't think you can go wrong with either one of the reels you picked.

Picked up an Airity 2500 from Digitaka to put on a P5 Whippet that's coming from JLS. I know shorter rod. Hopefully the balance is good, I know the cosmetics will be on point.
