Super User Sam Posted November 23, 2023 Super User Posted November 23, 2023 Well guys and gals, we hit the big time east or Richmond, Virginia as we have our first Buc ees off I-64 towards Tidewater in New Kent County. Heard a number of people talking about Buc ees. which I had never heard of before, and was wondering if this is going to be a new type of tourist stop for the entier family to enjoy. So tell me, all of you little green monster hunters, should we make a special visit to Buc ees??? 2 Quote
Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted November 23, 2023 Global Moderator Posted November 23, 2023 I would avoid at all costs unless you have 5-7 hours of time to kill i went once, couldn’t get on one of the 100 gas pumps (they all had a long line of cars), saw 3-4 road rage incidents in the parking lot, waited in line to pee for about ten minutes, then left very carefully to avoid all the rage. Didn’t bother trying to buy anything because the lines were so long, could barely walk thru the store. any normal gas station/convenient store is light years better 2 1 Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted November 23, 2023 Global Moderator Posted November 23, 2023 Agree Those things are like a Super Wal Mart on steroids. We went into one of them on a road trip and there was a line around the block just trying to get in, forget about fuel Mike 1 1 Quote
Super User AlabamaSpothunter Posted November 23, 2023 Super User Posted November 23, 2023 Have one about 20mins away.....I simply don't get the attraction. ETA: South of the Border is a real roadside attraction 😂 1 Quote
greentrout Posted November 23, 2023 Posted November 23, 2023 Buc-ee's set to break ground on first Mississippi store (clarionledger.com) 1 Quote
Super User Tennessee Boy Posted November 23, 2023 Super User Posted November 23, 2023 Well you have to go to Buc-ee’s to see it for yourself. It’s the greatest gas station of all time! You’ll probably only go once. It’s really just a big gas station with big crowds. It’ll be interesting to see how well they do long term. They are very well run and well staffed. They also pay very well. 2 Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted November 23, 2023 Super User Posted November 23, 2023 One of my fishing buddies is an airport cop. He said some of the workers at the airport left and went to the one being built in Springfield for better pay. 1 Quote

Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted November 23, 2023 Global Moderator Posted November 23, 2023 I don’t care what they pay, I ain’t working there 😂 2 Quote
Super User TOXIC Posted November 23, 2023 Super User Posted November 23, 2023 We swing in when going to and from Florida. There are groupees and there are foodies that love the place because their food is really great and they have specific products only available there. Their bbq is amazingly good. We’ve never had a problem finding an open pump or getting to the bathroom facilities which are touted to be the cleanest in the industry. No semi trucks allowed and it’s a little tricky with a 20ft boat but the price of fuel is considerably cheaper, so it’s worth the diversion to me. 1 1 Quote
Super User GreenPig Posted November 23, 2023 Super User Posted November 23, 2023 We've had one for 3 or 4 years that's 10 miles from my house and was gonna check it out. I lost interest when I was told the didn't sell bass lures. 3 1 3 Quote

Super User Koz Posted November 24, 2023 Super User Posted November 24, 2023 I've stopped at Buc-ees somewhere along the drive of bringing my son back from Texas to Georgia. I've made that trip twice, and each time we stopped there it was about 2 in the morning - and the place was still busy. But one thing that annoyed me there is they don't have squeegees to wash your vehicle windows. I guess they want you to pay for a car wash instead. 1 Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted November 24, 2023 Super User Posted November 24, 2023 overrated. I don't get why people want the whole experience when shopping. Let me get my **** and get out. Wawa basically has said that they designed their stores and business model around efficiency and getting people through the line and out of the store quickly and with good service. I will take that model every time. 2 1 Quote
Super User Tennessee Boy Posted November 24, 2023 Super User Posted November 24, 2023 I think this video better captures the true spirit of the place. Quote
Super User N Florida Mike Posted November 24, 2023 Super User Posted November 24, 2023 Theres one that I pass regularly when I’m working. There’s always a line of cars trying to get in and out. It just looks like a big hassle to me. Maybe if I was on a long trip or something… I by pass it to go to my favorite local chain which is a half mile or so past it. I did ride around behind it once, because it has a way in behind it. But I was only there hoping with all the hype there would be a pond there to fish. 1 Quote
Fishlegs Posted November 24, 2023 Posted November 24, 2023 @Sam That timeline is scientifically accurate. My time in the aimless wandering section of the graph is spent at the beef jerky counter. They have several varieties of jerky…and they give samples. Free beef jerky balances out the “no squeegee” problem for me. 😂 Be prepared for there to be 2,000 people in there no matter what hour of the day it is. It’s crazy. 1 Quote
BigAngus752 Posted November 24, 2023 Posted November 24, 2023 Ignore the grumps that like to pay extra for gas and buy roller sausages that have been there since I was in grade school. Buc-ee's is awesome. Fantastic food for super cheap. Every one I have been in (and my wife who is much pickier) had the CLEANEST bathrooms on the planet. Go! And bring me back a brisket sandwich please. 1 1 1 Quote
Super User BrianMDTX Posted November 25, 2023 Super User Posted November 25, 2023 If you gotta go during a road trip, you can’t beat their restrooms. Hands down the best. Every urinal has hand sanitizer lol. But the crowds can be crazy. 1 1 Quote

Buc ee's are the best we've seen and their gas is at least 10 to 20 cents a gallon cheaper than the others. Tour the store one time so you can say you did. That's all you need to know. 1 Quote
Super User Darth-Baiter Posted November 26, 2023 Super User Posted November 26, 2023 I love the place, but am a quick visitor. I go in, blow up ("don't go in there!")the spotlessly clean bathroom, wash hands, grab a bbq pork sandwich or two, a bag of the original bucce-bites, and maybe 10 bags of ice and get the heck out of there. it is full contact sport in there, and with people wearing short shorts too small, with T-shirts too big. :D. I am a losing bet. last time I was there, I saw a help wanted sign. a store manager makes $140k a year..not bad for the area I was in. 1 Quote
volzfan59 Posted November 26, 2023 Posted November 26, 2023 I love stopping at Buc-ee's. While they are crowded at time's, we're always in and out as fast as we want to be. Can't believe that I'm writing this, but the restrooms are always clean and you never have to wait for a spot. Guess I'm finally growing up at 64. Same thing with the fuel pump, rarely have to wait for a spot. I have arthritis in my lower spine, hips and knees. It's really nice just to walk around in the store for a few minutes after sitting and driving. 1 1 Quote
Eric 26 Posted November 28, 2023 Posted November 28, 2023 Although it sounds like Buc-ees is larger if you’re going by “Wally’s home of the great American road trip” stop in there. There are only 2 locations as far as I’m aware in Pontiac Illinois and Fenton Missouri. Clean restrooms, in store jerky counter plus pre packaged, ice cream station plus more😉 Quote
