I’m not sure if this is the proper location for this but here I go…There is a new chain store opening down the road by me called Runnings. I popped in there to take a peek and it looks like it’s going to resemble a farm & Fleet type layout but the fishing and gun departments look to be very large according to the layout (Yes !!! 😄) One of the employees working in there told me that Runnings is an 80 store chain so I was wondering if some of you have one nearby you and if so how are the fishing departments ?

Runnings started in Marshall, MN and yes, pretty much the same type of setup as a Farm & Fleet or a Fleet Farm.

I haven't been in one as the closest ones to me are in Monticello (34mi) or Hutchinson (36mi) where-as my 'local' Fleet Farm is only 15 miles away.

Is the fishing department pretty decent ?

Fleet Farm? Oh ya - rods and reels from their 'home brand' to mid-tier (St Croix Victory, Daiwa Tatula, Shimano Curado, etc) aisles and aisles of lures and plastics, line galore, good selection of electronics and TMs and all the accessories you could want from tackle bags and boxes to scales, nets..whatever. They've even got a few aisles dedicated to fly-fishing.

This isn't the Carver store - but indicative of FF's fishing dept.

Not surprised -

Fleet Farm only has stores in MN, ND, SD, IA and WI

Runnings basically the same area, but has branched out to CT, NH, NY and west to MT

Both those started in MN

Farm and Fleet started in WI and has stores in WI, IL, IA and MI.

I’ve been to Runnings in MN, WI, and SD. They are smaller than fleet farms, but similar. Prices are higher than fleet farm. Overall not a bad place to shop.

I have personally never been that impressed with the fishing dept at fleet farm or runnings because the shelves are always half empty. If they did a better job at rotating stock they would receive more of my business.

I remember going to Runnings with my Dad when I was a kid. We lived on a farm south of there by a little town called Garvin.

My Dad would pick up stuff for thw farm, but we would also always look through the fishing stuff! He always hit Runnings or the Shopko across the highway.

I still have his old tacklebox and some of the old Rapala lure boxes still have price stickers from Runnings and Shopko.

Nice flashback!!
