Swimbait packaging

On soft plastic swimbaits like Keitech, Rage Swimmers, Berkley... is the plastic clamshell packaging really necessary? For me, the plastic packaging takes up a lot of space. So I just open them all and put them in one bag. This helps me keep my bait storage neater. However I am careful putting them in the bag. I make sure they lay horizontally and nothing is kinked or twisted. There is no problem to doing that, right?

The clam shell protects the fragile soft plastic tails on the shelf. Probably a good idea to store them in original package and take out what you need to use in lieu of opening all the packages at once. 

You are careful when initially putting the baits into a bag but the don’t stay that well organized in a bag.

I have 2 3700 boxes devoted strictly to Keitech swim baits.  I have them sorted by size and color.  Before that I tried keeping them in the original package but it was too much trouble to find what I wanted.

I store clamshells in cheap laundry bags, sorted by size.  I'm also pretty lazy regarding this.  The only problems not using clamshells are color bleed and tail bending.  @Jig Man has a smart system and with any effort is easily duplicated.  If you separate color, you're good to go.  If the tail gets misshapen, you can wag them around in a pot of low boiling water for 10-15 seconds and they will reset.

Most brands will become kinked or damaged. I have found that Keitech will likely not.  I have had Keitechs out of their clamshell for 8+ years and still no kinks. I decided I don't like that method so stopped using it and just keep them in now and so that box has sat forever and they're still good.
