Flippin and Pitchin Rod???

What rod should I get for flipping and pitchin?  It will have to be a Falcon, All Star, Castaway or Shimano as thats what Academy carries here in town and the wifes letting me buy one Saturday while they are 50 bucks off  Early Xmas I guess or Im just that good of a husband, yeah right

I'm not familiar with the models of all those brands, but I would look for one with a fast tip rated for 1/4 to 1 1/2oz lures like the Team Daiwa Denny Brauer models.  That will allow you to either flip or pitch with ease and still have the backbone to get the job done.

Fast tip, heavy action, at least 7 foot, and any brand with a good reputation that fits your budget.

The 5 companies you've mentioned have good reputations far building quality products and you would be served well with either. Personally I have two Castaways' that are my Texas Rigs; they are light, sensitive, good back bone, and have excellent warranties.

I like Falcon's rods for the quality, the warranty, the C/S.  And they are affordable.  Between the Cara's and the Lowriders, etc..  From their website:

This light weight flipping stick has enough tip to pitch with and the strength to handle a big fish in heavy cover.

 Try this one, you may be able to perform both techniques with it.  I do.  I'm 6'2" and usually standing up in my Ranger.  Sometimes shorter guys may want a shorter rod.  They make a 6'10" pitching rod that is very good for that and some flipping, don't care much for it as a casting alternative tho'.

I also vote for Castaway rods, They're durable as Hell even thought they carry a 5 year warranty, I have never had to use the warranty yet.They are pretty light, but what impressed me the most are they are very sensitive. I have the standard series and the HG40 series and sensitivity wise they are equal, the HG 40 is lighter weight.The American Rodsmiths are a very good rod as well.  :)Ivan

I picked up a Falcon Lowrider 6'10" Heavy action with a fast tip for $69 bucks.  Thats a good price in my book.  I think Im gonna go get a Carolina Stick from Castaway tomorrow, they are on sale for $59 bucks.  Not too bad to me.

Team All Star MH 6'6" to 7'6". It depends how you feel about the length when it is in your hands. I personally use a 7' because it has always done me just fine for flippin and pitchin plus it is great for spinnerbaits and buzzbaits as well.

What senile1 said is good advice and will certainly get the job done. 7 1/2' improves the experience for me. If you get a dedicated flippin stick, try to get your hands on a longer one and try it.

I don't want to hijack bitman's thread but I recently built myself a spiral wrapped 7' 6" Loomis FS904X IMX 'Flippin Stick' blank and it is a joy to fish with.
