NoFroFishing Posted November 22, 2023 Posted November 22, 2023 Looking for what others have replaced their hooks with. I tried Gamakatsu Treble Round Bend Hooks which is what Tactical Bassin recommended and it just made the lure sink. I fish a lot of ponds so a sinking jerkbait is the opposite of what I want. I messaged MegabassAmerica on IG and they said use any light wire #8 treble you want. Clearly that is not true and I am having a hard time even finding light wire trebles in size 8. So hoping some of you have an idea. Quote
Texas Flood Posted November 22, 2023 Posted November 22, 2023 Just curious, what dont you like about the hooks that are on the Jr? 1 Quote

I think the stock hooks are great. After a week and more fish than i'm used to catching I bent two of them out. Didn't know a direct replacement wasn't available to buy. This is my first Vision jerkbait. 1 Quote
Super User AlabamaSpothunter Posted November 22, 2023 Super User Posted November 22, 2023 Welcome to the nuanced world that is the Vision 110 series. I started a thread like this last year. Contacted MB as well. There is no perfect answer, and depending on your water temps, certain hooks will affect the bait more than others. Ultimately MB sent me free replacement hooks, along with using Gama G-Finesse A-Mart ones in size 6 and 8. I wish MB would sell me these hooks, but they wouldn't. 5 minutes ago, NoFroFishing said: I think the stock hooks are great. These are finesse jerkbaits in a power jerkbait profile. Throwing them on max 12lb test, and using your drag is key to extending the life of them, as well as not losing fish on them. Lots of people throw them on fairy wands and 8lb test......I can't get away with that, but I still throw them on 12lb with a baitcaster setup. 1 Quote

Super User AlabamaSpothunter Posted November 22, 2023 Super User Posted November 22, 2023 Yeah they're always sold out it seems. The Vision 110jr/+1 might just be my favorite bait, but it's very nuanced. I fish them around heavy cover, I lose some big fish and 110s because I have my drag backed down and that first hard run gets me every time. On the other side, last year I lost some big fish because I had the drag locked down and had fish both bend me out and break a hook point off. No free lunch fishing Vision 110s, everything is a compromise I've found. It all stems from the light wire hooks needed for long range hookups, to the light line needed to make the bait dance right. When they want it, there is nothing on the planet that puts fish in the boat as fast in my experience. You can get like a dozen fish on a dozen casts, they're truly magical like that. 2 Quote

What's been your favorite? scott Speaking of Matt Allen......at the beginning of September I tried Daiwa J-Fluoro Hidden Concept in 12lb after I heard him saying it's his new favorite Jerkbait line. It's now my favorite as well, it casts further than any other 12lb I've used, and is equally supple as Invizx or Sniper. Supposedly even less visible than typical clear fluoro, but really it just looks so cool on the reel 🤣 Equally abrasion resistant as those two as well, which is to say not that great. Everything associated with Jerkbait fishing seems to be "no free lunch" for myself.....I want the super supple long casting Fluoro lines, but none of them offer the abrasion resistance of stronger types like Shooter, or cheaper PLine ultimate. Tatsu remains too expensive for my blood. 1 Quote

I'll test these when they get here and try the others as well. Seems pretty difficult to find actual light wire treble hooks in size 8. Quote

Yeah, the sites that are based around LMB/SMB tourney fishing didn't stock too many trebles bigger then #6. The success of smaller JBs and now the BFS market, you will see a bunch of sites that never carried smaller trebles begin to do so. TW carries a bunch of them now. The only ones I mentioned that TW doesnt have are the Speahead Ryuki trebles. Quote
Super User AlabamaSpothunter Posted November 28, 2023 Super User Posted November 28, 2023 I'd love to know why MB doesn't sell the Jr model hooks just like they do with the Katsuage hooks. They recommend a hook that is about half as sharp as the OEM ones, they are simply unacceptable after using the OEM ones especially. They know these OEM hooks need replacing often. At least give a better option than standard gama 8s. Quote
Shadow1 Posted November 30, 2023 Posted November 30, 2023 I use Owner Stinger ST36 hooks. They are the exact size as the Megabass hooks. They are very sharp and seem very strong. I have never had one bend or break. 1 Quote

I'll need to try again tomorrow with more sun light but from what I could see the action looked the same and they stayed suspended and didnt sink. 1 Quote

As far as I can tell, the suspend is about the same as the stock hooks, possibly as little faster rise, but I haven't really compared them side by side on the same day with the same bait. 1 Quote
