Clear sky winter days have been best for me

As a Wisconsin guy, I will say this is the latest I’ve open water fished. Used to be all hunting at this time.
I’ve been shore fishing only for the past 2 months. Did great on cranks (squarebill) in October, since it’s getting cold in November, I’ve had mixed results. Few on lipless, few on jerkbaits, but since it’s getting really cold , the Ned rig (zman trd) has been the best. Not my favorite way to fish, but it’s working.Just yesterday however, I had my only luck using a Rapala DT 6, cranking it to bottom quickly, then super slow (annoyingly slow!) along bottom. I tried several other presentations first- this was the only one that worked.
was very satisfying to catch a few fish, and figure out something they would hit.

I should also add, I’ve had great luck until the last few days on a flat sided crank ( Rapala OG tiny 4) with no rattles.

The channels I fish are 6’ deep tops, and currently loaded with shad.

Yesterday I threw:

Nichols Hoosier Indiana Colorado in 3/8 oz, white skirt/ gold indiana blade chartreuse willow kicker with a chatreuse zoom twin tail trailer.

Siebert Swim Jig in a perch color with a X Zone swammer on the back dipped in chartreuse.

1/4 oz 5/0 hammered silver willow Owner Flashy Swimmer with a 4" Largo Shad in Tennessee Shad

Strike King Scounbug on a 3/0 Eagle Claw Lazer offset worm hook with a unplugged 3/8 oz tungsten sinker.

Thunderhawk Sergeant Lipless in the Hitch color.

Berkley Stunna 110+1 in the Tennessee Shad color.

Nichols Impulse Buzzbait in 3/8 oz with a white chartreuse skirt, gold blade and a chartreuse pepper rage menace on the back with trailer hook.

Strike King Pad Perch in White.

Gonna be throwing the same thing today!

I wish I could go ice fishing, but I live to far south, so I have to settle for starting the day with a buzz bait.

My winter bass lures are split ring pliers, some reel oil, the internet, a TW gift card, and maybe a book or two.

I wouldn't be using books in the winter time to catch bass. They are well educated enough as it is and the last thing we need is well read fish.  Try tossing a brochure or a miscellaneous instruction manual.  It generally appeals to their curious nature, but the bass around here seem very keyed in on menus right now.

Suspending jerkbaits, lipless cranks, flatside cranks, Neds, shakyheads, blade baits, big Colorado bladed spinnerbaits.

Blade bait, hair jigs, tubes,

jerkbaits and big swimbaits. I fish blades, hair jigs and tubes in deeper places. Big swimbaits and jerkbaits in the shallow places. I’m fishing in 40 degree water. Give or take a degree or two

@Pat Brown you reckon the best way to fish a book might be to wacky rig it? The spine seems like a natural spot for a hook.

Currently tied on: Lunker! (1975) by Bob Underwood.  Observations of bass behavior from 1700 hours of scuba diving:

Definitely the spine - too many "i’s" from which to choose for direct line tie.

Last Winter I had good luck with an A-rig, and a couple different jigs.   So far this year I've only caught 1 on an A-rig.  I haven't thrown a jig much yet.    I've been doing pretty good so far with a shaky head.   3/16 ounce with a Bizz Baits dizzy diamond, cut down to 4 inches.   I skipped one under a dock today and a spot hit it mid skip.   IMHO it's not "really" Winter yet.   Water temp is down to 55.   A few more degrees and I'll call it Winter.
