shimanogloomis man Posted November 24, 2006 Posted November 24, 2006 ok so i decided im ganna get the loomis cbr845 for throwin cranks and again thanks everyone for the help, now as for reels keep in mind shimano only, moslty ill be throwin 1/2 to 3/4 rat l traps i narrowed it down to the chronarch 50 mg, or the curado 100d now today i went to a local tackle shop and the 50 mg looks more like a finnese reel more then anything so i dont know if it will handle throwin a heavier lure as good as a curado or anything else u guys recommend, i did like the calais 200 alot wow was that a sweet reel more then i woould like to spend but if its worth it i like to hear please fill me in,i will be using 12 floro now what everyone u guys recommend should i stick with the us verions or japense, i do own a chronarch 100b and a curado bsf and a citica so please dont metion those i like to have diff models Quote
Super User Alpster Posted November 24, 2006 Super User Posted November 24, 2006 i did like the calais 200 alot wow was that a sweet reel more then i woould like to spend but if its worth it i like to hear please fill me in, My opinion is, that no one has ever purchased a Calais and regretted it. If there is a smoother, more solid reel anywhere, I want to try it. I have two of them and if I could only have one reel, it would be a Calais. For deep cranking the calais CL200 (my reels) is fast, 6.2 :1. However the APV model is 5.0 :1. But that is a personal preference. Just an aside, if you want to mortgage the farm and have the ultimate cranker, Shimano Calcutta TE200DC 5.0 :1. Retails for $499 and goes for about $350 new on ebay. The most amazing reel you ever fished with. Casts an 1/8 oz crank bait or floater like a spinning reel and is as strong as a boat winch. JMHO Ronnie Quote
jayhawkfishin Posted November 24, 2006 Posted November 24, 2006 For what you are going to use the reel for i would suggest sticking with the 6:1 gear ratio. For lipless crankbaits you want to be able to burn'em at a high speed which is why i say say with a high gear ratio. If you were going to be throwing a lot of deep divers then you would want a 5:1. For a reel i would suggest either the calais 200 or the Chronarch 100B. My favorite reel, the 50mg wouldn't be my choice for those big baits. I use the reel for more finess presentations. Quote
shimanogloomis man Posted November 26, 2006 Author Posted November 26, 2006 thanks guys i think im goin to treat my self to a calais 200 ;D Quote
Super User FishTank Posted November 26, 2006 Super User Posted November 26, 2006 I just purchased the Calais 201 and fished it for the first time today. It is so smooth, you'll think you're fishing with some weird foreign object. It is truely amazing. I can cast just about anything I want from a 3/8oz crank to a 3/4oz lipless crank effortlessly. I hope enjoy yours. Quote
