jacktrevally Posted November 23, 2006 Posted November 23, 2006 As the topic suggest I'm looking for a rod for fishing with 2lb line or even less! How can I put that? I want a rod that someone will choose to catch minnows. Should be short of about 4-5ft. I will be matching that with a tiny 500 size reel for specimen hunting. Any recommendations? Url of a pic if possible... Cheers, JT Quote
Yodie Posted November 23, 2006 Posted November 23, 2006 Im not sure of the amount of money you are wanting to spend here, but if its in the $125 or $200 dollar range I would reccomend the Loomis SJR6400. I persoanly do not own one, but have used a friends a time or two. The only thing about it I didnt like was its length, I personally hate short rods. My choice of ultra-light was the SR 781-1, which is only very slightly (read that very) more stiff that the SJR 6400. I think for what you have listed the SJR6400 would be perfect. Plus if you get the GL2 version you can pick form three cool colors, although I personally would take the IMX for its quality. Specs of SJR 6400 Length: 5'4" 00 Power (very very ultra light) 1 piece 1/64-1/8 ounce lure weights 2-6 lb. line Extra fast tip and listed as MAG-LIGHT instead of ultra-light. Quote
fishbear Posted November 24, 2006 Posted November 24, 2006 how about one of those ultra light #1 or 2 fly fishing rods. I used to have one that was only 4 ft. long. I paired it with a micro spinning reel for bank fishing for rainbow trout.... talk about having fun..... Quote
jacktrevally Posted November 24, 2006 Author Posted November 24, 2006 Thanks for the feedback guys. The Gloomis sounds very interesting. I'll keep that as an option as I will favour a 2pc rod. I know a 1pc will have a higher fighting capability at this length. The 4ft fly is anothe roption I might consider but haing a reel at the bottom of the butt doesn't make it easy to cast. Quote
Laggyman Posted November 24, 2006 Posted November 24, 2006 Have you seen any of the pen rods?? We have rods (and matching reels) in Japan which will collapse into just about the size of a ball-point pen. Maybe a bit longer, but close enough to hide in your suit. Comes at around 20$$ I guess ;D Looks fun for minnows and smaller fish http://store.yahoo.co.jp/trend-walker/b7c8c2d3ca.html Quote

This is a toy, rings are too tiny for casting! I need a real rod because it ismeant for serious business! Quote
New 2 Bass Posted November 24, 2006 Posted November 24, 2006 Don't laugh. Ugly stick UL is like 4.5 ft. Penn 430 SSg w/ 20 lb braid. Killer for Bluegills. It has also landed a 4lb bass. Fight took forever, I thought I snaged a log. ;D ;D 'cept logs don't thump back. You can always use a lighter reel. The rod catches fish. later Quote
Lightninrod Posted November 26, 2006 Posted November 26, 2006 Check out this Polish ultra-light rod in action. "The rod was a custom built on St.Croix 5S59ULF blank (2-4lb, 5'9", 1/32-3/16oz) matched with Conquest 51S. This combo is casting just great, any lure you want." Dan Quote
