I have been doing some bank fishing as my rehab progresses.  I have the lightest version of the symetre for a couple of years now.  It's spooled with 15 # powerpro

There seems to be a new problem. If I cast a little to sharply the bail is springing closed.  This happened enough to be pretty annoying.

Is there a quick fix?

thanks.

avid,

Have you applied to much oil to the bail arm post under the screw? If so you need to get it out of there.

This area should only be greased. You have a bail trip lever, bail spring, and click pin, that all help hold the bail open. If when oiling the post you over due it the grease gets thinned out and will cause slipping of the bail trip lever. When the bail is open, and you snap cast the reel, the forward movement of the bail will cause it to close prematurely.

The only quick fix I know of, is clean that bail area out and re-grease it. Watch out for the small click pin spring, it will make a vertical jump right out of the hole. Watch out for the main bail spring and nylon holder they will also snap out.

Hope this helps...

Haaaaa ;D

David you know me sooooooooooooooo well.

I haven't used the reel in over a year, so I dusted it off and practically drowned it in wd-40.

You have told me before on reels that you serviced for me to be careful not to use wd-40 where grease is applied.  did I listen? On the baitcasters yes on the spinning reel NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Thanks for the advice.  I'll try to undue the damage

You are very generous with your knowledge David.

Any BR.commer who requires expert servicing can do no better than to send his reels to you.

Thanks again.

It probably washed out every bit of grease Shimano® had put in it...
