Super User Munkin Posted November 18, 2023 Super User Posted November 18, 2023 Trying to find one of the people who help you with VA claims for disability. Someone mentioned there are some sort of Reps that help with this? Injured my back due to a hard parachute landing in the Army. Pain and mobility problems are just getting worse with age. I tried filling on the claims myself several times but they get denied. My doctor is recommending physical therapy several times a week for a couple months at least. Even with my insurance the costs are going to be like $300 a week which I cannot afford. Allen Quote

Super User slonezp Posted November 19, 2023 Super User Posted November 19, 2023 I have a buddy who's considered 100% disabled. He got run over by a jeep back in 1990 which destroyed his knee. He worked with a VA attorney starting about 15 years ago and was finally granted 100% about 5 or so years ago. It's a very slow process. He's been going to PT 3 days a week for years, as they say no surgery will ever fix his knee. His other knee and hips are bad now due to the original injury. Quote
greentrout Posted November 19, 2023 Posted November 19, 2023 Go to the VA Medical Center in person or have someone else you trust go. There are information centers located usually in the lobby and throughout the facility who can direct you to a VA advocate in the facility who can start your case. It's not perfect but it does work. You also have a congressman. I'm a proud Veteran. Quote
Super User Munkin Posted December 8, 2023 Author Super User Posted December 8, 2023 Finally able to see a VA rep today. She has me requesting some stuff on my past claim denials. Also talked to an attorney who specializes in VA disability in case I get shafted again. Kicking myself in the ass for not following through with this years ago. Rough estimate I screwed myself out of at least $250k. Allen 1 Quote

Once my buddy was deemed 100% disabled thru the VA in IL, his property taxes have been waived. Something else for you to look into. And I'm gonna make a shameless plug here. This is the third year I am raising money for a fishing charity on BR. This year Take A Vet Fishing is the recipient of our donations. Quote

(and they know it). This is what allows the folks that actually need the benefits, to receive them. Every BIT of information needed to apply for benefits (including qualifications) is readily available & the systems works. However, some folks want everything handed to them, while others pass on incorrect information. A-Jay 2 Quote

A-Jay I would argue that 50% or more of the civilian population and 100% of the illegals are receiving benefits they are not entitled to. I agree there needs to be a process. The process shouldn't take 10 years as it did in my buddies case. He doesn't have a beef with the VA medical care. None of my friends/relatives have issue with the medical. They've been very generous on that end. They pay for my buddies therapy outside the VA. Whatever is wrong with his knee is not repairable with surgery. Quote

Know a guy who was a photographer in the Navy that never left DC. He was able to get 100% saying he hurt his knee during a PT test. Five years later he was running the Marine Corp Marathon and Army 10 miler. Allen Quote
