Super User Darth-Baiter Posted November 18, 2023 Super User Posted November 18, 2023 I hate my punch options with my current rods. I want to do it more, and I’m looking for a physically lighter rod to do it with. thoughts? Quote
Super User NorthernBasser Posted November 19, 2023 Super User Posted November 19, 2023 I was looking at this myself for a 'shorter' punch rod. I have the 7'11" Expride A that I punch with. That 7'6" has the same lure range as the 7'11". I bet it'd work well. Quote
Super User Darth-Baiter Posted November 19, 2023 Author Super User Posted November 19, 2023 Thanks. 7-11 is too long for my kayak I think. ‘’I think this will work. Mmm Quote
Super User WRB Posted November 19, 2023 Super User Posted November 19, 2023 List a comparative rod weight if physical weight is your baseline. Tom Quote

Mmm How about the 7'3" version if you're in a kayak? Also, same lure weight rating as the 7'6" and 7'11". Brian (Punch Fishing) says it's a good punch rod. (this is also supposed to be a great frog rod) Quote

They're actions are almost identical in feel to me, so go with the length that suits the kayak best. If weight is everything the 7'6XH adrena is the lightest punch rod I've ever held. scott Quote

Super User Darth-Baiter Posted November 19, 2023 Author Super User Posted November 19, 2023 I have nothing but old SixGills (yuck) and Lews rods for punching and they are like awful. that six gills was my biggest waste of money ever. Quote
JohnFromLisbon Posted November 19, 2023 Posted November 19, 2023 I have the 7'3" XH, the previous gen Expride A - amazing frog rod. And I've pitched the cheese with it too, haven't really felt the need for a 7'6", much less the 7'11". The Expride B is even lighter. Quote

JohnFromLisbon Posted November 20, 2023 Posted November 20, 2023 @Bandersnatch handled the new one in the store and thought it was the same weight upgrade as the Zodias, because of the whole "monocoque" handle thing. I stand corrected. 😅 1 Quote

Mmm I thought you said you primarily stand in the kayak but I may be wrong. If you are standing then get the rod you want as being in a kayak doesn't matter. I have never found a longer rod to be an issue and I fish with fly rods up to 9' in length. Quote
