To be frank, Bob didn't willingly team up with me. I told him to co-author or else and I'd attach photos like this with the caption, "This is the 'or else!'":

For those who aren't aware, Bob built a beautiful bass and bluegill pond, which has been attacked by muskrats. So, threaten him with more muskrats and he'll do your bidding.

That picture will give me nightmares!

Seriously though, your article is fantastic and will remind me to tone it down while I'm on the water. Furthermore, In no way did my small contribution deserve so much attention but, as everyone here at BR knows, your kindness is unlimited!

But saying it out loud helps me verbalize where I should be fishing!

I keep trying to read this in while I am in my meeting, but they keep asking me questions.

go it done.  GREAT ARTICLE.

this topic speaks to me as a kayak fisherman.  I slip around quietly, best I can.  I also really advocate for the long-bomb casts.  I like to really fire at distant targets so not only do I minimize my sound, I minimize the bass seeing me.   in shallow waters I shut off my FF as well.

Yep, we kayakers and canoeists have some advantages (and disadvantages too, of course), but only if we exploit them.

Lake lice are rampant in our local SoCal lakes, jet ski, wake boats with boom boxes and a few hundred 200+hp boats running around producing lots of white noise.

Now the weather is changing, the lake lice are thinning out add some rain and it’s quite time.

I grew up reading Jason Lucas who advocated being quite so that has been goal.

The reason I make long casts is to stay off the bass during day time and it’s out good over the years. Not stocking cat quite but trying not to alarm the bass.

Good article👍

Tom

Please more info on Lake Lice. We do not have such an animal here. Are they large enough to see, and are they eaten by the sunfish. Sounds like swimming would be nightmarish!

Bob, I think he's referring to jet skiers, pleasure boaters, wake boaters, and generally anybody that's not a respectful Bass angler on the water as "lake lice".....and I'd agree 😆

Great article!!!    I think noise is one thing people overlook when fishing crowded big reservoirs.   I've learned (after seeing Katy talk about stealth over and over) that even though the noise is there, and the bass are used to it my chances are better if there's no noise from me.  I see people loudly flop their trolling motors into the lake, dropping stuff on the decks and make all kinds of noise.  I've eased over to where they were, right after they left and caught decent bass.   I keep my trolling motor hinges and latches well lubes, and well as the seat/pole I sit/lean on.   I love aluminum boats, but I believe this stuff is really important as the hull probably transmits more noise that glass.

Absolutely. I too have owned and loved aluminum boats and they're wonderful, but work like megaphones.

I'm not surprised. This fall, I actually fished near a couple Mainers in a canoe and they fished exactly like me. They were close enough for me to cast into their canoe, but a couple times I forgot they were near simply because they were so quiet.

Then they'd have a bass thrashing beside their canoe and I'd think, "Forgot about the two of you."

They even whispered to each other. Maybe it's the Maine canoeists' way.
