What strange, immature behavior. I wouldn’t fish with that guy. When the people on my boat catch fish I’m always excited for them. Can’t imagine getting upset at someone else catching fish out of my boat.

Last place I would want to be is on someone else's boat and them be a crybaby little *****, which is exactly what he is doing.

I'd find another place to fish either on foot or another person's boat and I would start saving for your own watercraft.

just how nice is his boat?  :D

Hula girls, 50 craft beers, and a pizza oven, I'm guessing.

My personal opinion is that it's simply not worth hanging out with someone like that. It can only drag you down and dampen your spirits.

I'm lucky that i pair up with @flatcreek a lot to go fishing and we genuinely root for each other to do well out there.

Exactly. It bothers me if the other guy is struggling.

I got ticked as a co-angler in a tournament with the same type of guy.  Long story but I told him,  "If you're going to act like that, you shouldn't be driving the boat. I dont care if you own it."

My best fishing bud and I are like Gimli and Legolas (he's Gimli though, ugly fool). Counting every catch, the big ones count as two, and the non bass don't count at all. Then it's a restaurant stop afterwards, stinking and all. Get you a friend like that.

My friend and I do the same, but if you catch a pike its -1 point.

Update. He replied back to my text. and apologized big time. Seems he had some stuff going on in his personal life. He did admit he was wrong though. Takes a lot to admit that

People do change.  For the worse and for the better.  "The only constant is change".  And sometimes all we need is a friend to help us through the bad times and show us the better path.  I know I wouldn't be the person I am today without a couple of good friends to help me along the way.

It's up to you how you want to approach it.  Just be careful and take care of yourself.  Don't sacrifice yourself trying to save someone who wants to drown in their own anger.  He'll take you both down with him.  It's like the parable of the scorpion and the frog.

As noted, often times people with bad attitudes don't learn to act better, but instead learn to tell people what they want to hear so they can continue their bad behavior.  They'll offer you promises, ask for your pity, and then when they get that, go back to doing what they did before.  They got this way by learning how to emotionally manipulate others.  It's up to you if you want to give this guy another chance.  He could be genuine this time.  But odds are it's just another trick, and he may not even be aware that's he's pulling a trick on you.  These guys are so manipulative, that they can manipulate themselves into believing the things they say.  So be willing to walk away at any moment and stand firm in your decisions.  Everyone deserves a second chance.  But no one deserves to be abused.

I’ve given him a few chances but this is the first time I basically told him enough is enough. We talked about maybe trying again in the morning but it’s gonna be 31 and I’m pretty sure I’m getting sick 😂. I’ll see about next weekend. It’s my birthday weekend next weekend and I really want to fish but I don’t know if I’ll be on a boat

I appreciate all the responses guys. It’s been hard to wrap my head around cause I genuinely try to be positive for everyone and hope for everyone’s success. I’m realizing over here in tri cities there’s actually a ton of toxic fisherman that just want to drag you down

@kingmotorboat They must all be musky fishermen  around you😂😂

I feel like bass guys go into almost two groups.

The we want to have fun and the we take it very seriously crowds.

catfish anglers tend to be laid back just enjoying catching fish.

walleye guys do it for the meat.

Musky guys have a chip on their and think they are gods gift to fishing. This is probably the most stuck up opinionated angry group of anglers I have ever met. Act like children.

at least this is how it is in my area.

@Susky River Rat I feel like I want to have fun and take having fun very seriously but I have a good time when I skunk and when I catch them and I always enjoy the time I spend with the people I take out on the water.

Some people play dungeons and dragons.  Some people knit.  Some people collect baseball cards.

Some people bass fish....I don't fish for money and have no desire to but I fish every day and I love it dearly.

@kingmotorboat in my brief time being obsessed with chasing LMB, I have definitely had some deeply bizarre interactions but I have learned, expect nothing and accept everything and just keep on casting!  When you feel a bite, set the hook.

@Pat Brown there  is nothing wrong with taking it seriously. That was not meant as negative. I would also argue most people here take it to some level of seriousness. I have even fished for money and would do it again.

I just never want to bass fish seriously like I did for musky. a love turned into an obsession so much it felt like a job. I drank the musky cool aid was a jerk to people. It actually made me a more miserable person.  Then it hit me one day I am chasing bragging rights more than I am fishing for fun. Don’t get me wrong they are a huge rush.  With bass I smile joke pet my dog just enjoy it. With musky it was throwing out my shoulder for 12 hours straight not eating or drinking because that meant I didn’t have a lure in the water and couldn’t catch one.

Taking it seriously, even to the point of an obsession is not an excuse to be a jerk.  Just like Pat, I take it seriously but I also enjoy every second I spend on the water.  I'll guarantee you can't find anyone who would say I'm a jerk while fishing.   If I'm not catching Bass I'm learning.  (I'm learning when I'm catching them too, but that's even better)

I don't and won't fish for money.  However, fishing for money is not an excuse to be a jerk.  The nicest guy on Lake Wylie also happens to be a guy that wins almost every tournament there.

Basically there's no excuse to be a jerk, while fishing or doing anything else.

I think we're all doing society a favor if we refuse to tolerate jerks.

31 degrees is perfect @kingmotorboat, go slay em! I know I’ve probably asked you before but have you made it to watauga yet?

@Woody B we had three bodies of water on the whole eastern side of PA worth fishing for musky. The “inc” group you can fill in the blanks of who. The vast majority of them poisoned the sport here. You couldn’t go on a Facebook page here without one of them spouting off. EX: that person fished to much that’s why he always catches musky. He’s holding the fish wrong. He fished 80 degree water temps. I was even told I need to watch my back at the ramp. So, I think being a jerk at times to those people is warranted. They were the ones suppose to be promoting musky fishing.

you could not get away from them because of the few quality areas to  catch those fish.

Been away for awhile hunting but came across this thread....... WOW.

Sounds stressful and something I want no part of.

Actually doesn't sound like a friendship because I personally love to see My friends experience success while fishing.

Hope this behavior changes quickly or time to move on.

Here is another idea......invite him to view, and perhaps join BR to see how anglers treat each other. We do not compete, quite the contrary. We teach, learn, and encourage. Everyone has "Things going on" in their lives but that's what friends and fishing are for, to help smooth the ripples of life. I usually fish alone but a couple times in the past few months I got to fish with Chris Catigiani from this site, then my old fishing buddy from back home. Chris hung and lost a big smallie and I grieved with him, then we laughed. My ol'e fishing buddy outfished me every time and I couldn't have been happier!

I’ve fished it twice but only have caught one fish. I typically do better on Henry and boone

Watauga is good for bank fishing, lots of good points to fish from on public land . Colder the better, people just make a fire. Rubber boots recommended for the clay

Bro that happened to me too! Wasn't thanksgiving, but I was on vacation with family from out of town. Instead of doing any of the things we planned, we ate takeout and played rummikub all week.

It was pretty dope, honestly. Aside from the whole covid thing.

The highlight was playing cards against humanity with my mother in law.

If someone is in my boat and not catching fish, I'm working double time until they do.

@Susky River Rat's observations about his area's musky anglers had my head nodding. When I fished muskies, it was so...catty. I fished with a couple renowned musky fishers in the Midwest, witnessed their talent and tenacity from a few feet away, and also read others clucking about them online. After a few years, that and the pain of heaving lures the size of mackerel led me to sell all my musky gear.

@ol'crickety it isn’t just one or two. It’s a majority of them. They get so bent on anyone else’s success. The musky community as a whole is toxic.  With such little fishable populations in this area we all rubbed elbows a lot. I am sure I will bump elbows with one or two while I’m out bass fishing today. I didn’t even pick up a musky rod this year at all. First time in almost a decade.

Watauga seems more of a place to need a boat. Im

gonna try to find someone to fish it with eventually. Most of the time when I bank fish I go to the bass pro pond in Bristol 😂

man imma be honest it hasn’t been that bad this go around. Just stuffy really. If I had a boat I probably would’ve fished the whole week 😂
