kingmotorboat Posted November 12, 2023 Posted November 12, 2023 Guys I moved up to east tn last year. Love it here. Well I’ve been fishing from the back of my new buddy’s boat. Love the guy to death but here’s the problem. Anytime I catch a fish from the back of the boat he gets angry. I mean really angry. Today I caught a good one and he proceeeded to sit on the front deck for 2 hours acting like a two year old. I’ve actually now go to the point where sometimes I don’t even really fish cause he gets irritated when I catch a fish and he doesn’t. He’s new to bass fishing. I’ve been doing it for years and years in south Louisiana. I have tried to educate him and he doesn’t want to listen. It’s actually cost me a few fish this year when he throws his temper tantrum. Being the new guy in town it’s hard and I mean hard to find someone to fish with cause lots of these guys have been together years and I don’t blame them. They’ve built that relationship for years who Am I to come in to change it. Any advice guys? Or anyone in east tn needing a partner? It’s getting to the point where I can’t even fish from the back of his boat cause he’s already broke a few rods this year being irritated so I just throw random stuff 😬 3 3 Quote
Super User Popular Post T-Billy Posted November 12, 2023 Super User Popular Post Posted November 12, 2023 My advice, don't fish with him anymore. I'd rather bank fish, than fish with that guy. 38 Quote
Super User AlabamaSpothunter Posted November 12, 2023 Super User Posted November 12, 2023 Exactly what Tim said, I can't imagine how petty of a man it takes to invite somebody to come fish with you, then cry when you catch a fish. Seriously, the guy sounds like he's not a well adjusted adult. 9 Quote
kingmotorboat Posted November 12, 2023 Author Posted November 12, 2023 Appreciate it guys. Just hard to find people to fish with up here and not much bank fishing real estate. It’s been like this for a while honestly. Last weekend things were better. This weekend they got way worse. Almost lost my pb smallie a few months back asking for the net and he just stared at me. So I boat flipped it. He then proceeded to smash his rod on the side of the deck. Usually I don’t ask for a net but a 4 pound smallie for a Cajun is something special. I don’t know. He wasn’t always like this. Now he’s mad cause I catch fish and he doesn’t even though I’m trying my best to help him. Terrible position to be in. 2 Quote
Super User AlabamaSpothunter Posted November 12, 2023 Super User Posted November 12, 2023 I hate to say it, but Faceback groups are pretty amazing at connecting people. I'd join a "Lousiana Bass fishing" group on there, and make a post looking for local fishing friends. I made a good big swimbait friend locally last Spring in one of those groups not even trying, we've already fished twice together. 3 Quote

Moved here from south Louisiana but I get your point though. I joined a few groups here but not many looking for regular partners. Joined a club last year and the guy I got put with never showed up 😂 1 Quote
Super User MIbassyaker Posted November 12, 2023 Super User Posted November 12, 2023 What on earth? This guy does not sound stable. 2 Quote

I get grumpy when I'm the only one not catching too but like...if my buddy has a tank on his line I'm gonna want to grab that net ASAP and I best not lose it. If it happens again I'm gonna be asking a billion questions. I'd rather be known as a great net man and a fast learner than a stubbornly ignorant crybaby. Your uh, friend, sounds like he could use a good therapist 4 Quote

Susky River Rat Posted November 12, 2023 Posted November 12, 2023 I doubt I’d be fishing with that dude again. I guess it’s different me being a boat owner. I can do as I please. You’d be better off getting a kayak and fishing that way. Anyone who’s going to break their stuff over your success is a nut. 2 Quote
GRiver Posted November 12, 2023 Posted November 12, 2023 Wow….@kingmotorboat, that’s a hard row to hoe. I’m sorry to ask this but, is he all right to hangout with other than fishing? My Dad and I used to razz each other, but it was all in fun. the other me would complain that they caught the other ones fish. Have ya tried talking to him? That’s nuts 2 Quote

That’s nuts well we connected through a local lake fishing reports page. He had just started bass fishing wanted to learn. We fished a few times. Then I was gonna actually go with my wife and hang out with him and his wife. But about that time is when the issues started happening Quote
FrnkNsteen Posted November 12, 2023 Posted November 12, 2023 Life's too short to deal with that. I'd be done with him! My suggestion is to start setting aside money to find a kayak or something as Darnold suggested. Should be able to find something for a reasonable deal!! 2 Quote
Pat Brown Posted November 12, 2023 Posted November 12, 2023 Sounds like your friend might need some perspective and some alone time on the water/maybe fishing isn't for them. Sheesh. Sorry to hear about the nightmare. I fish on the bank a lot. It's peaceful. I think the Facebook group idea is solid if you're looking for new local fishing friends. Sounds like you and your pal could use a break. 2 Quote
BigAngus752 Posted November 12, 2023 Posted November 12, 2023 Wow man, I'm really sorry that you're in this situation. That has to be disheartening. It all comes down to what you are willing to put up with and whether it's worth it. Fishing is my peace. So...I would either have a heart to heart with this guy if I thought I could help him, or I will scrabble up enough dough for a jon boat. Good luck to you. Quote
crypt Posted November 12, 2023 Posted November 12, 2023 buy a boat....beat the bank....get a kayak.......just don't get in that guys boat again......sounds like an episode of Snapped waiting to happen.... 3 1 Quote
greentrout Posted November 12, 2023 Posted November 12, 2023 He sounds like a bad egg. Do yourself a favor and write him off. Be patient with your circumstances and look for another way to fish. Other options are there. 2 Quote
Super User gim Posted November 12, 2023 Super User Posted November 12, 2023 If that was my only route to get into a boat and fish, I wouldn’t even go. I’d honestly rather not even fish than deal with that nonsense. Raking leaves sounds better, and I hate raking leaves. 2 Quote

Super User islandbass Posted November 13, 2023 Super User Posted November 13, 2023 I wouldn’t tolerate that from anyone. He should be happy when you catch a good fish. I felt that negativity he gave off in your post and I’m on the other side of the U.S. Better to fish alone than have to go through that. What if he really loses it and wants to harm you and you’re both on his boat far off from any place to get to safety except for jumping in the water? Leopards can’t change their spots. Don’t be like the guy who sticks with a girl because she’s hot but knows she’s toxic and bad news. I hope you have the wisdom and fortitude to cut this off. 1 Quote
kingmotorboat Posted November 13, 2023 Author Posted November 13, 2023 My wife says the same thing y’all do. Just trying to find a good way to cut it off amicably. I wish for nothing but success for anyone. So I do wish for his success but it just ain’t gonna be with me in his boat. Thanks guys. I’ve been here for years and this is why I love this forum. I’ve never ran in to this scenario before so it’s nice to get some insight and opinions 2 Quote
mcipinkie Posted November 13, 2023 Posted November 13, 2023 You have two choices: Walk away and say nothing except "No Thanks" when he asks you go. Walk away, confront him gently, and tell him why. 1 Quote
