Hey,

I was thinking of treating myself this holiday and buying a new rod. I am staying away from technique specific rods for the most part. I was looking into the megabass levante line of rods. These are made with high quality components from what I read, is megabass considered JDM? For all you guys who own a levante series rod what are your opinions of it? Do you think at that price point I should look into other manufacturers? Thanks

I have the Shakeyhead model, beautiful rod, flawless really.  Great rod for the money.

Made in Vietnam, and while Megabass is a Japanese company, the Levante rods in America are considered USDM rods and as such as warranted by Megabass USA.

If you bought a Levante from Japan that's a different story.

JDM just means it was meant for the Japanese market.  Megabass does have "JDM" rods with Megabass USA warranties which are the new P5 Destroyer JDM series.

This is how I understand it, others might correct me.

I fish T rigs, jigs, and my Bull Herring on my Braillist and have no complaints. Paired it with a Curado 150 MGL.

JDM? No idea, but it performs.

Yeah think i ran across this one, little more than I'm willing to pay lol I can't justify blowing that kind of money for a rod in my life right now....no doubt it's top tier quality

I have the Jerkbait Special and it really is a nice rod. Are you looking for a more do-it-al type rod? Like a MH? How much are you willing to spend?

The Shimano Zodias is around the same price point and that's also a great option. Or with sales, if you can, the Expride is top notch for that price. It's an amazing rod.

I have the Perfect Pitch.  I bought it for a light punch rod, and it is indeed a bit of a light punch rod.  it is heavier than I like for a pitch rod, since I gravitate towards smaller bait presentations if I pitch at all.

visually it is friggen nice.  fit and finish is wonderful.  I think my rod is very nice, but it turned out to be softer than I like for punching.  I sends the bait out, with a mere wrist flick, but the rod loads up somewhat sometimes just yanking the bait clear.  I have taken bass, but nothing giant..YET.

it will skip wonderful.  I can skip a heavy jig nicer than I imagine.

I guess I just haven't found a niche for it.  I do think it would make a GREAT frog rod.  I just don't frog that much where I typically fish.

I have a few Levante rods.   Perfect pitch, Braillist and aklys.   I’d like to get the Diablo spec-r, whipsnake and emtf as well.  Having said that.  The perfect pitch is great.  I use it for a lot of things especially frogs.  It’s always out with me and one of my fav rods the past couple seasons.

KTP has 20-25% off sales that includes megabass.  Levantes are 150-160 shipped.

Brailist

Perfect Pitch

Are must haves.

I have the Levante Spinnerbait Special. Fun rod to fish with, and very versatile. Have thrown finesse jigs, squarebills, jerkbaits and lipless on them…and spinnerbaits - lol

Tough to beat the craftsmanship and sensitivity of a levante at that price point, especially if you time it right for $150 when ktp does 25% off.
