I prefer my old stuff, but I won't ever tow a boat with it.... and sadly, I DON'T have Michelin tires on it ...

Let's start a truck tire thread and stop hijacking A-Jay's new truck thread!

🤐

It's all good.

Pretty sure I started the tire talk so

that opened the door.

Btw, new rubber is very pungent !

You can use the same set of tires for 90,000 miles??  That seems way too long for any set of tires.

I got 117,000 miles out of my first set of BFG 285/70R17 TA/KO’s on my ‘05 Ram. Got 75,000 on the current set.

So where on the 1 -10 Crazy scale 🤓 does a guy fall

when he cleans & conditions a set of brand new tires

designated for a rig he won't have for at least a couple more weeks ?

Well I buy used tires in the heart of the poor community so I’m looney too. They still seem to roll, 1 out of 4 has a slow leak 😂

I’m on my second set of AT3s and have been pleased for the money. They are $400 or so less than the KO2, etc. but they do tend to get loud around 25k miles. Got 80k out of first set and am 30k into this set with no issues.

My oem tires on the Silverado went 65k.  It’s now wearing a set of Michelin LTX all seasons.  Just put tires on the wife’s Highlander. Went 75k on oem.  Went with Michelin Defenders that have an 80,000 mile warranty.  Priced them out at tire rack, discount tire and a few other online warehouses.  Our membership club (BJ’s) had a sale on them plus free mounting and balance with lifetime free rotation.  It did beat the online prices once you factored in mounting and balancing.  As an aside, I put a set of Michelin LTX on my jeep wrangler that went over 100k and I only replaced them because they were dry rotting and cracking.  Jeep has over 450k on it now.

the  Michelin tire is so good.  one winter I went to Lake Tahoe with the wife.  met some friends with their screaming babies.  shared a condo!!  (Bad idea).

anyways, the parking lot was up a steep grade.  covered with snow.  my tacoma with the Michelins was the only thing that could go up the hill. I put all the luggage in and drove it up.  I ended up helping like 3 families.  I would just ease down for another load.  ironically my wife and I are the only light packers.  the tires were awesome leaving quickly, that condo with the screaming kids.

screech!!!  bye!!!  love you, see you when you're teens!!!

I have Michelin's on all my vehicles.  Defender LT MS/2 on my pickup and SUV, and XDS2 on my dually.

The Defenders have great traction on wet roads and still have great gas mileage, and let me tell you, the dually has plowed through standing water on the freeway without any hydroplaning issues at all.  Been through some serious downpours and standing water, and these tires are excellent.

I have the XDS2 on my dually because I fish a couple of lakes with primitive roads and launches (steep too) that can be a real challenge when wet.  I can pull the boat around with ease. It's the same tire they put on tow trucks - you know, the ones that pull people out of snow drifts?

To be truthful, I have loved the smell of new tires since I was a boy. When I retire, I should get a PT job at a tire shop. I’d be happy.

My wife thinks I’m insane. It’s one of my favorite smells.  A tire shop.

true story.  how i discovered the Magic of Michelins.  i didnt.

i was looking for a Tacoma.  i found exactly what i was looking for in Los Angelos.  had a friend go and kick the tires for me.  he gave it a thumbs up.  i contacted the seller ASAP and told him i would buy it.  but at the end of the week.  i paypaled him $1000 to hold it.  i told him i dont show up, the money is his.  my loss.  i bought two airplane tix for saturday.  he agreed.

he disappears, i kick ass.  hahha..

well, i show up and buy it.  my wife is with me, because i was coming off night shift.  zero sleep.  we drive it back to SF area, and the tires are BALD!!  really bald.  we make it, and i go to sleep.  work day comes and i am still on night shift.  while i am sleeping, my wife goes to the store and buys 4 new tires.  Michelins LTX.  I WAS PEESSED!!  i had visions of some aggro tire in mind.  coopers, toyos..something tough looking.  i bite my tongue and just drive on the tire, waiting for them to wear out.  well, they never wear out.  at 70,000 miles i try to buy more.  but they go missing due to the pandemic.  they were sold out at Costco for about 4 years.  they are the best tire!!  i buy Coopers and it was okay.  they wore out funny.  cupped.  made me think my bearings were bad more than once.  i flatted twice.

Michelins are about a boring as sliced store bought whitebread (visually).  that same tacoma just got a new set of Michelin LTX's.  great MPG, quiet, smooth, tough as nails.  i'll put them on my 2023 Tacoma when the time comes.  100%.   if i sell the 2006, i might swap the tires around.  hahaha..

I went with a set of LTX’s on my 2012 F150 this time last year. If Darth-Baiter is right, they should last me another 13 years. I’ll let you know if they do.

It’s a pretty sad statement when you have to consider the fact your tires might outlive your vehicle. 😂🤣

Not me. 😎All of my trucks have been bowties. My white 2016 High Country, and my black 3/4 ton I traded in for the 1/2 ton.  My daughter drives an older Ford F-350 single rear tire because she towed a big horse trailer and it has the old reliable 7.3 diesel.

There’s a decent chance they will both outlive me.

Going to jinx myself here. I'm done with Dodge. Had 3, never again. Last truck was an 08 Tundra built in 07, the first year of the last generation. The discontinued 5.7 is a helluva engine, but I had a bunch of work done under warranty and a bunch of work done out of warranty.

I'm at almost 100K on the Super Duty and the only work aside from maintenance and recalls has been a water pump and a tailgate latch.
