Truck Tires

Latest is that the New AT4 has made to Flint, MI. 

Which is 3 hrs or so south.

Rig should be at the local dealership here in a week or two.

A short visit to the dealer this morning to iron out a few last details.

Ordered a new Bed Rug, Blacked out GMC emblems and a set of Cooper Discover AT3 XLT tires.

I initially deliberately ordered the cheapest stock rubber GMC offered

with intentions of replacing them. 

Dealers 'buying' them back. (I'll take a little hit)

Said accessories will be installed prior to my pick-up.

Thinking last week on this month.

That's an awesome tire. I've had great success with tire wear, traction, and low road noise. I will admit I've had NO experience with snow, thankfully!! 

 

I'm ordering a set for my recently acquired 1st gen Toyota Tacoma. 

 

Looking forward to seeing your new ride. I bought the ZR2 Silverado and love it.

i loved my Coops, but they wore out so quickly for me.  and before i got rid of them, they did that cupping thing and had me thinking bearings and/or driveshafts going bad.

 

i got me Michelins and it was like riding on glass.  so smooth and quiet.

I put Cooper A/T somethings on my Silverado when the factory tires worn out.   They'll be great on your truck.   I put a bunch of miles on so I put Michelins on my Titan.   They aren't the best performing, or the best off road tire but they last forever.  I've got over 65K miles on them.  They've still got 6/32" rubber.  The Coopers on my Silverado had 5/32" at 50K miles when I sold it.  That's good tire wear too in my book.   They were really good the couple of times I had them in the snow.  We rarely get snow here to that's less important to me than people further North.

I've run nothing but Coopers on my trucks for 25 years now....I'll keep buying Coopers until I no longer drive.

I had coopers on my honda civic for 10 years and went to get a new set last year but the price was way out of line for my budget so i bought a set of goodyears.

I've run Michelin AT/2's for 15+ years on my trucks and wife's Wranglers. They're great in the rain and very good in snow.  I can get roughly 90K out of a set by rotating them regularly.  They've been great for us.

You can use the same set of tires for 90,000 miles??  That seems way too long for any set of tires.

I used to hunt Unit 33 near Tucson AZ every January for Couse deer.  there was no cell service and our trips was essentially 10 days of busting butt in the winter desert.  the only place I could get cell service was on top of this hill.  there was a tiny goat trail going up, and we would hike up to glass for deer.  sometimes I would drive up there.  my tacoma has 4LO with a rear locker and it was a tank.  one evening, three fully rigged jeeps with airdowned tires, full cages, bead lockers crept up that hill.  they were up there drinking beers and high-fiving each other, speaking fantastic accolades for their 4x4 prowess...  after dinner, I wanted to say hi to my wife.  so I drove up there, sipping hot tea, in my bone stock Tacoma 4x4 on Michelin 4-season radials.  I park next to them and called my wife.  I like to believe I released some of the air out of their pride that evening.  those Michilen LTX tires are insane on slick rock.

I've done it on my '99 Tacoma, boss-lady's 4-Runner, and my '07 Tundra.  I run them as far as I can unless they get to the wear bars close to winter.  Nenita's current Wrangler has 35K on her current set and is no where near replacment and I'm around 60K on my '17 Tundra. I tow my Ranger with this Tundra so I might not get as many miles out of this set. I rotate them about every 5K.

 

We drive mostly highway.

Not for nothing, Jeeps are cool.  Our daughter drives an '04.  Of course Dad put a 2" lift and tires from a JK on it for her for a College graduation present - how she wrapped me into that I don't know .. we paid for her degree ...

Put those exact tires on my daughter's '04 GMC 1500 a couple years ago for peace of mind while she's in college driving around Montana and they've been great on the highway, in snow, and the backcountry. Look good too!

Can't even imagine. My cummins 2500 on mountain roads chews through a set of tires every 20-25k miles. 😆

Strong work @A-Jay! My brother has Chevy with the new interior...VERY NICE! He's got the 5.3, and it's a screamer. I cannot imagine how much fun the 6.2 will be : ) 

 

My Dad ran Coopers on his truck back in the day and he really liked them. He did Michelin's as well, and got many miles...

 

I swapped out stock rubber for Bridgestone Revo's on my 2004 HD, based mainly on internet reviews. 

 

 

Bad choice...they were shot by 43k miles. Switched to BFG AT-KO's and got 65k miles out of them. HUGE difference with snow / off-road / wet traction as well. 

 

Went back to BFG AT's on the 2019...running strong at 45k miles...plenty of tread left.

Only Michelin, they advertise 90k tires. I got to 70k on a work truck with no rotation at all

The BFG AT KO2's are my "summer wheels".

Great tires also IMO.

I'm never going to be coming close to approaching

the warranty mileage on most of the rubber that I run.

So I get the best the tire has to offer for 20k or 30k or so and then they go by-by.

I like new stuff. 

And there's never a shortage of folks lining up to buy them used - ever.

My oem tires on the Silverado went 65k.  It’s now wearing a set of Michelin LTX all seasons.  Just put tires on the wife’s Highlander. Went 75k on oem.  Went with Michelin Defenders that have an 80,000 mile warranty.  Priced them out at tire rack, discount tire and a few other online warehouses.  Our membership club (BJ’s) had a sale on them plus free mounting and balance with lifetime free rotation.  It did beat the online prices once you factored in mounting and balancing.  As an aside, I put a set of Michelin LTX on my jeep wrangler that went over 100k and I only replaced them because they were dry rotting and cracking.  Jeep has over 450k on it now.

I rotate my tires every time I take it in for an oil change (which is about every 8,000 miles).  I mostly use Goodyear tires that last up to 50,000 miles.  90,000 miles still seems outrageous to me but I guess there are some rated that long.

As do I. And GY does the rotations for free for the lifetime of the tire. Between the last 2 trucks, I'm on my 4th or 5th set of GY Wrangler Adventure with Kevlar. They have a 60K warranty but really need replacing around 50K. They're quiet, work well in the snow and mud, and I've never had a leak or a flat. These are being discontinued and replaced with the Steadfast. I would have switched but they are not yet available in the size I need.

I put 3 sets on the Tundra, the Super Duty came from the factory with them, I bought a set at 50K and just put another on now at 98K. As far as Michelin's, they were factory on the 2008 Tundra. I got 65K out of them which was probably 10K too much. The last 10K, the tires had virtually zero traction. They were a LT tire with highway tread.
