Bdnoble84 Posted November 9, 2023 Posted November 9, 2023 I’ve stumbled onto a pattern recently. I found a spot where smallmouth are stacked 1 on top of another feeding on small 2-3” minnows. Basically throwing anything remotely resembling 1 of these small morsels will get bit. I ve narrowed down to an 1/8oz 3.5” tube in smoke and a 1/8 oz bucktail jig in a minnow pattern to be the best options for bites and hookup percentage as well as snaglessness since i am having to let them fall to the bottom in chunk rock. my issue is i’m running into alot of 9-13” fish with few bigger. I’ve played around with a few diff things for bigger bites but no luck yet. Is this a situation based on forage that im just going to have to weed through the smaller fish and wait to run into something bigger or would upsizing be the right call for increasing the avg? i know i can just upgrade to a jig or big jerk anyways and just take a chance i wont get bit but im curious everyones thoughts. Susky River Rat Posted November 9, 2023 Posted November 9, 2023 I have learned generally the same size fish school together. Not to say there isn’t bigger or smaller but many will be the same size. If you are looking for big ones find the big fish school. 4 Quote
PaulVE64 Posted November 9, 2023 Posted November 9, 2023 Upsizing and going slower has worked for me. But if you tell me your problem is catching too many will you invite me next time? 6 Quote

Generally i do prescribe to that school but based on the spot and what i know about it, there are some 16-20’s mixed in somewhere in the stretch. Quote

Probably coincidence but this guy did like a bigger lure. 4 Quote
Super User FishTank Posted November 19, 2023 Super User Posted November 19, 2023 When they are feeding on small bait, these two have been killer. I burn them and pause. I have blown through about a 10 hooks in the past two months on both bass and small mouth that have bent them out or broken them. Megabass GH 51 Humpback and Bassday Mononofu 50 in the colors below. 1 Quote
