Hot n Tot Posted November 7, 2006 Posted November 7, 2006 Spinning rods: St. Croix Casting rods: G. Loomis Quote
RiskKid. Posted November 7, 2006 Posted November 7, 2006 St Croix is my favorite but I do have a G Loomis which is equally as nice. Quote
Super User Sam Posted November 7, 2006 Super User Posted November 7, 2006 Anyone tried the Kister line of rods? A few of my friends love 'em. My G. Loomis is excellent but I also enjoy my St. Croix's and BPS rods, too. Hey, my old Ugly Sticks are still performing very well. And the Shimano's are excellent, even the one where I broke one of the eyes. You never realize the eye is missing. Quote
Top Posted November 7, 2006 Posted November 7, 2006 I have to say mine is cross timber custom rods the lady that builds these things is one class act! http://www.rdlwebs.com/ladyrodbuilder/entry.htm I very rarely "promote" a product but Mary deserves all the cudos she gets.. she puts her money where her mouth is when it comes to supporting troops and I personally can't thank her enough for her generosity to the soldiers... and NO she didn't give me a rod... I have heard where folks had rods stolen and they get with her to REBUILD their collection because her rods are THAT good... AL Quote
Hawgin Posted November 7, 2006 Posted November 7, 2006 Fenwicks. I think these rods are very underrated, and very seldom talked about. Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted November 7, 2006 Posted November 7, 2006 G Loomis is my favorite and the only ones I use. Quote
jayhawkfishin Posted November 7, 2006 Posted November 7, 2006 Another vote for G. Loomis. BEST. Quote
Super User RoLo Posted November 7, 2006 Super User Posted November 7, 2006 Bubba's Magic Hawg'n Sticks and Aunt Sally's Composite Toad Poles Sadly, they have both been discontinued, so I've been forced to condescend, in no particular order: G.Loomis <> St. Croix <> All Star :'( Roger Quote
Guest DavidGreen Posted November 8, 2006 Posted November 8, 2006 RoLo, That'ss a good un.... Personally I like DG Rod Works.. Tight Lines!!! Quote
Lightninrod Posted November 8, 2006 Posted November 8, 2006 Al: That link doesn't work. I found her rods here though. The only rods I use are Kistler's LTA Heliums, Megabass, and one Okuma(for the 5 ounce swimbaits). Dan Quote

Bud Posted November 8, 2006 Posted November 8, 2006 G Loomis is my favorite and the only ones I use. exactly Quote
flippin4it. Posted November 8, 2006 Posted November 8, 2006 I own Shimano, Daiwa, All Star, Fenwick and a Ken Cook Berkly flippin' stiick. But one stands alone................................... Grandt rods................... Quote
basspro48 Posted November 8, 2006 Posted November 8, 2006 I use to be a big fan of All-Star rods but after I picked up my first Kistler it was all over. All-Star still makes a decent rod for the money but I am just blown away by the Kistler's lightness, strength, durability, and insane sensitivity. I highly reccomend a Kistler rod to anyone who hasn't tried them. Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted November 8, 2006 Super User Posted November 8, 2006 For a poor man on a budget, I like Bass Pro shops rods, the bionic blades, extreme's, and cranking sticks can't be beat in there price range especially when you buy them on sale, which BPS has often, I also don't mind the "hump" on the handle, I actually like it. I also have several Fenwick rods (Eagle GT, Venture, Techna AV) and they are very good resonable priced rods. And last but not least the good old Berkley Lightning rods perform much better then there $30 price tag, and you don't have to worry about busting one. I have no doubt the higher end rods and reels people recomend here are far better than the stuff I use, I just like to offer an opinion on some more moderatly priced gear, that is reliable and of good quality for those of us who can't afford $300 rods and reels. That beeing said I PROBABLY could afford a few of those combos if i didn't have soo many of the less expensive outfits, but I like different rods and reels for different purposes (crankbaits, weightless soft plastics, jigs, c-rigs, flipping, t-rigs, top waters, live bait, jerkbaits, frogs, panfish........and others I forgot to mention) for most of these fishing styles I have built a combo with the affor mentioned rod choices that suit me and allow me to feel comfortable and confident in the technique I am using.
