Super User WRB Posted November 8, 2023 Super User Posted November 8, 2023 Old School western soft plastics that have disappeared from local tackle shelves and still catch bass. When the split shot presentation was a hot technique out west for tournament anglers. Dick Trask was the local distributor and packaged the 4 1/2” curl tail worms and Screamer a 4” ribbon tail in French fry boxes. When Dick passed away the Flutter Craft lures were lost in the haze of time. I found a bag of reapers on a peg at a local shop and the page company was in Poway California. After chasing the Flutter Craft company down learned they were gone about 5 years ago. Last week I found the new company with the tooling in Texas called Artitishable-Flutter Craft Custom Baits. called 858/395.0198 talked to owner Frank Palalich, he has the original tooling and placed an order for Reapers and Screamers.😀 With Don Iovino out of the custom soft plastic business this is good news. Super User Mobasser Posted November 8, 2023 Super User Posted November 8, 2023 One I've always wanted to try is the Westy Worm. I'm not sure if these are available now. Looked like a good clear water- deep water plastic worm. Quote
Big Swimbait Posted November 9, 2023 Posted November 9, 2023 I have been a big fan of Upton's Reaper. A very under-the-radar bait, Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted November 9, 2023 Super User Posted November 9, 2023 I know reapers in particular are still very popular in the smallmouth fishing world on rivers. I use them in winter along with birds and both are from https://confidencebaits.3dcartstores.com/ Solid baits that I have yet to try for largemouth but maybe I should..... Quote
Super User WRB Posted November 9, 2023 Author Super User Posted November 9, 2023 Both the 3” and 3 1/2” Reapers work good, 3 1/2” is my preference in smoke Shad colors. The trick with reapers is hook flat side up. Screamers have a very thin fast swimming tail moving slow, killer split shot worm. The 4 1/2 Flutter tail worm is another good action slow retrieve, very soft tail sets it apart from Mister Twister etc. Finesse being popular today these are excellent finesse soft plastics that work! Super User Catt Posted November 10, 2023 Super User Posted November 10, 2023 Knowing the success of these plastics I'm dying to try 6th Sense's 10" Ridge Worm at night on the Big Pond. 2 Quote
