Trying to see if its even worth it to strip line off the Tatula 200 and respool with braid to test myself. Anyhow, I have an Irod Freds Magic Stick that I have been using for smaller swimbaits and it has worked wonderfully for that; however, I also want to throw some frogs with it and was wondering if the Tat200 would do a decent job casting those with braid.

I am basically exploring a couple of options:

1. Buy a spare Tat200 spool and use braid so I can swap spools out

2. Spool up a spare Fuego CT that I have with braid and swap out reels as needed

3. Buy a budget frog rod that I probably wont be super happy with and will end up upgrading from either way

4. Also have a Curado K on a 6'10" Tatula rod which I might be able to spool with braid

Any advice appreciated.

Can’t say on the 200, but the 150 is the same as the 200 with a bit smaller spool and I was pleasantly surprised at its capabilities.

I believe the 150 has MagforceZ vs reg linear Magforce braking on the 200

The IRG rod will cast 1/2 oz, it’s made for that. Your reel shouldn’t be an issue, what line do now use?

I'll be running 30lb braid for frogs. I currently use 15lb YoZuri for smaller swimbaits.

Do you like that rod? What do you use it for?

Been great but mostly been used for smaller swimbaits like magdrafts, small hollow body swimbaits, and small glides. Have thrown some carolina rigs and heavier jigs with it as well and its worked great for that.

Would you say it acts like a “fast”? What is the lightest weight that you feel the rod is appropriate for?

Maybe its me but I would say it feels more like a moderate fast than a true fast. That said, sensitivity is great on the rod. I haven't tested the lower limits but I have thrown jigs down to 3/8 and it does that fine as long as you aren't solely going for distance. I believe the line/reel may have also been limiting factors though. I wouldn't want to throw a 3/8 crankbait with it though.

I can throw 1/2oz carolina rigs with 20lb fluorocarbon no problem with my Tatula 200.

Yo-Zuri Hybrid 15# is .016D same as 20# FC and 25# Armilo.

You can use the Magic Stick for swimbaits to 2.3 oz (68 Hudds) no issues.

Don’t know how heavy your frog cover is but 25# Armilo works but doesn't Cut through vegetation like braid does.

I would consider 40 or 5O # braid, it’s easier to handle.

Following up on this. Can anyone definitively confirm whether or not the Tatula 150 has a MagforceZ spool and if its interchangeable with the 200?

*Edit

Disregard. After some research it looks like

Tatula 150 = USDM reel (34mm spool)

Tatula HD 150 = Tatula HD 200 (36mm spools)
