I didn’t know what to make the title but that basically sums it up haha.

So for work I work for Loomis as a “money man” as everyone seems to call me at job sites. I deliver and pick up money from banks and stores as well as service ATMs doing replenishments and deposit pulls at certain ones.

The way people act at ATMs while I’m servicing them never ceases to amaze me.  When doing drive up ATMs we have to take the cassettes out and bring them to the truck or we are inside a kiosk that holds the ATM. Every week I get people who drive either around my truck jumping the curb or back in from the exit and try accessing the ATM and they get all ticked off that it’s down because I’m working on it. The other week had a guy all irate and angry he stormed into the branch and was chewing them out because I was blocking the atm.

Then theirs the people who come into the bank when I’m doing the ATM in the branch and I hear and see them over the surveillance cameras while I’m in the room behind the ATM doing my thing trying to use it when the screen is either black or says “out of order” then I can watch them walk in and talk to the girl in front pointing to the ATM and complain.

Then this week I had to do what’s called a deinstall on ATMs in several Walgreens on the first of the month which was awesome planning on their part. During deinstalls we take all the money out and lock the safes open so they can work on it or replace it. I went back today to put them back in service and had to store clerks and managers tell me people were still trying to use it when I left the safe open and power turned off they then got mad at the store for it being down.

It’s just crazy how oblivious people are today when it comes to things especially when it comes to getting their money. People who drive over the curb and around my truck to get to the ATM are probably the most entertaining though I’ve had a few blow tires out or smash their mirrors trying to get between the truck and either the building or pillars holding the roof over the ATMs never hit the truck shockingly though.

Then of course there’s all the people who ask if I’m handing out free samples if I’m doing the ATM in a store.

I know some of y’all have probably seen us in your area servicing banks, stores and atms. Hopefully not being like the people I described other than asking for samples that’s just humorous.

People never cease to amaze me. I do underground infrastructure construction and we regularly put out road cones for safety reasons. The amount of cones I’ve seen hit by people and even ran over and dragged down the road is insane!

I have never saw an ATM getting serviced that I know of. Obviously everything needs maintenance at some point. If I do go to an atm and it’s down I just say ahh (insert cuss word here) and go on to the next one. No complaining it’s not a big deal.

It's amazing to me that ATMs still exist in today's world.  There are countries in the world where cash is not accepted.   It won't be long until that's the case here.  I suppose it's because many people don't have a credit or debit card?  I can imagine some people don't have a checking account?   If you are among these, having the ATM go down would make for a bad day.  It's happened to me and it is annoying.   Fortunately, the bank I use has another branch within a few blocks.

I was going to say doesn't everybody have a credit card, debit card and or some form of cash app on their phone. In live in Podunk Iowa and I've seen places that only take card. This just proves that if you give people a reason to tick and moan they will 100% of the time.

I’ve heard conspiracies that all atms will be gone by 2037 for the whole cashless thing. Bank of America prefers you use the atm for everything deposits withdrawals everything. Their atms hold the most at least of the ones I do several times a week. Depending on day and when in the month I’ll swap out between $200k-$375k  in cash and usually anywhere from 20k-150k in cash deposits take out and double or triple in some cases in checks.

It’s fascinating for me anyways servicing atms and safes in gas stations depending on where they are located. My atms in the “hood/ghetto” corner bodegas easily go through 40-60k in 2 days around the first the month. The safe points behind the counter in nicer parts will maybe have 1/3 of the cassettes filled but in the other parts the city where atms get used a lot they fill the cassettes in the safes several times a week.

Then there’s the people who ask if the gun on my hip is real while I’m holding a brick of 20s($20k) going into the atm. I laugh and say yes.

National debt is 33 Trillion with a Trillion added alone in the last calender year......pretty soon you'll just be putting Monopoly money in those machines and I doubt people will be angry then.

One natural disaster and all that technology is useless.

Seen it with Katrina, Rita, Ike, & Laura.

The way people act is amazing, after Rita I was working for the Port of Lake Charles keeping the flow of 18 wheelers flowing. One enter section was closed off, myself & a deputy from Kentucky was standing by his car with lights flashing, & a barricade behind the car. This Karen in a Mercedes drives around us, the petrol car, gets out & starts moving barricade!

The argument the followed was intense.

It's my belief that most banks want you to use the ATM, and do most, or all other banking online or with an app.   Peoples behavior amazes me, not just at ATM's but anywhere.   No patience, no respect, and no consideration for others.   Go to pretty much any grocery store parking lot and look at all of the shopping carts just sitting in parking places because people are too lazy and inconsiderate to put them in the proper return place.

On average I visit an ATM a couple times a month.  Occasionally one will be down for servicing.   I keep some "reserve" cash in the safe in my Truck, as well as in my safe at home.  I'll just dip into that if the ATM is closed.

Added: it's not just younger people who are inconsiderate jerks, and "me firsters".  There's plenty of people my age and older who are jerks too.

Don't think I've ever seen an ATM out of service for this specific reason.  Wouldn't be that big of a deal for me.

Only place I use cash anymore is the laundromat - which they have signs on the machines saying "Credit/Debit cards accepted soon".

the modern age, people cant handle inconviences anymore.

for me, it isnt an ATM.  its' a section of freeway, or OFFRAMP/OnRAMP.  people loose their minds. when i have changed their habitual route.  without doubt, when i close a route, there will be one or two people that still drive thru.  had one idiot drop her harley into our wet concrete pour.  hahaha..

i dont take any of it personally anymore.  life is too precious to fill my mind with the thought of people i dont know.

When I used to close banks and were transitioning over to a new owner and were performing the 10,000 hours of accounting work necessary to insure a smooth transaction, we would disable atm deposits and limit withdrawals so we could keep a handle on the transactions.  There were a whole lot of peeved people.  And for those who think cashless society is a positive, I’ve got news for ya….it ain’t.

This is the part of digital banking that I don't think there is any planning for. We're overdue for a Carrington-style event, what happens when the debit terminal phone lines catch fire?

I see people servicing the ATMs regularly, do people think there's like a pipeline that spits out money? How else do they think the money gets there? If you watch Aladdin even Robin Williams couldn't just make money *appear*

I use cash whenever logical to do so, especially in "mom and pop" stores. The fees they get charged to handle debit or credit cards can really eat into their profits. Companys like Wallyworld can deal with the cost of handling credit cards without suffering. But small business owners are having a rough go of it, so I try to make it easier on them. I also dislike using credit or debit cards because it is easy to forget how much you are really spending. If I have to pull cash out of my wallet, I am extremely aware of exactly how much I am spending. Paying cash often stops me from making those impulse purchases of things I really do not need. Plus at mentioned above, if a natural disaster happens and the power goes out, you debit/credit card is useless, and you can't get money out of a machine. I keep a chunk of money at my house (in a very secure safe) "just in case". Also, I do not have a smart phone, so I cannot download any apps. I have a very basic flip phone type cell phone that is used for emergencies when I am away from home. Cell phones do not ever work out in the boonies where I live, so I still have a land line for a home phone.
