Do you find buzzbaits "fussy"? And what's your Love-Hate bait?

Got about 4 of them and I've never really cared how the bait runs as long as it's buzzing right.   I use 5.5" Spunk Shads in the spring, and then use Stanley Frogs and a few others that I'm trying to eat up post spawn until winter.  I honestly don't think the fish are that much interested in whatever is dangling or the orientation of it.   It's such an un-natural presentation to me that I don't sweat the realism nuances.   Just my opinion.   

 

I have a hate/love relationship with every single lure I've ever fished outside of the Z-Man Flashback Mini with an Armor Shad and spot of super glue.   If I had to survive based on what I catch, that's the only lure I'd throw.      

 

 

 

 

Why couldn't Zman just put a freakin' keeper on that flashback minnow...like the wire hook type. 

 

I only have a few buzzers that could use updating.  Back in the day, a good buzzer was made by tying it to your truck's sideview mirror to break in.

This year it's been poppers. I didnt get to fish a lot this summer due to health issues but this fall I fished a lot, which is normally popper season. I only got one fish on a popper all year where normally in early and late season they're very productive.

I have a love/hate relationship with lipless crankbaits. They're one of my favorite and most productive baits, but they can be super annoying by either not running straight right out of the box, fouling because of the littlest piece of grass, or snagging super easily.

I have a Love/Hate with crankbaits. I love the size fish I tend to catch on them, I hate fishing them.

I use the smaller versions on my Chatterbait Minimax.

 

Strongly considering adding to my buzzbait.

The Spunk Shad tail depends on movement from something in front of it creating movement (such as a chatter bait) OR changing your reel speed with start - stop action . *Reeled in a straight line on a buzz bait - I'd rather use a Zoom Z-Craw / Z- Craw Jr. or a Z-Man GOAT with better (yet still subtle tail action) for buzz bait trailers and not a Spunk Shad .

You have a method for rigging them without tearing them?

Not really any tips but with these Dirty Jigs "naked" buzzbaits I have to really pay attention to threading the baits or the lead will pop out.     Wish I had some tips, it's a pain in the rear for sure.  

 

Same thing happens on the Stanley Ribbits.

Hollow body frogs.  Began using them a year ago when the lake was about 30 feet high and into the woods.  Lots of bites, few hooksets, a new learning experience.

Not sure if this has been suggested but......the more you fish them, the louder they squeal.  You can accelerate the process by hanging it on your antenna on the way to the lake or in lieu of that,  hang it in front of a fan in your garage overnight.

I can't hear high pitched tones anymore, but my wife says the noise is very irritating, so I know it's working.

I fish a Cavitron with nothing but a skirt and trailer hook. Works great, no fuss.

Lightweight buzzers do this more often than heavier ones and that's likely why yours with the Pit Boss wouldn't run on its side and it would with other trailers.  I don't throw many buzzers that aren't at least 1/2oz. as I don't use them with trailers. If I want to slow down, I switch to a floating buzzer, or a double prop bait.

I'll start throwing them as soon as the water temps reach the low 40's.

Buzzbaits and whopper ploppers drive me crazy. I've never caught anything over a pound. I have seen them catch big bass but they never seem to work out for me.

For me,  it's the spinnerbait. I miss more fish in this bait than most others, except maybe a frog. In the lakes I go to, fish will hit the blades and not the whole bait. Then there are times (and there are a lot of them) where the bass won't touch a spinnerbait and I need to stop throwing it but I'm just too stubborn or too lazy to throw something else.

I had a couple Cavitrons and they were fussier than any other buzzbait I have used.  Once I'd get them tuned to ride vertical, they'd be tracking hard left or right.  I like that they can run pretty slow, but I quit them.

9/10 the issue is some kind of trailer plastic. Don't use them. It's like saying a spinnerbait runs left or right. Doesn't happen without the trailer. There's no rudder on a wirebait.

Chatterbaits.  I have caught quality and I have caught quantity.  I have also had a lot of days where I caught absolutely nothing.  It’s maddeningly inconsistent.  As for buzz baits…I’ve never been.
