I’m not enough of a reel guru to know the slight nuances of reels. The same can be said for rods as well. I’m a simpleton. This reel gives me the casting distance I’m looking for, it’s smooth, the brakes do their job and with consistency, and it fits great in my hand.

Overall I like the reel, the price point I feel is great for what you get (even if it is a graphite reel), and I’ll be adding more to my arsenal as I upgrade.

This will clear up everything. Seviin designed the reel, owns the tooling and sold the design to Banax😂

Seriously I'm sure for the price it's an ok reel but the cats been out of the bag a long time that other than Daiwa and Shimano, the majority of other brands are Asian built OEM reels nothing wrong with that nor is their anything wrong with the graphite frame. Most people reel shopping will never read stuff like this, see a Seviin reel on the shelf and buy it. Whether it's Seviin or a Steez, go fishing and have fun.

So question for you @12poundbass and anyone else who owns and uses these reels. How do you enjoy and are you still using the reels? Any issues that stand out or conversely any highlights? How about servicing issues if any 🤔 I ask these questions as I was at my local BPS yesterday and finally had a chance to handle the display model and really get a good look at it. At the price point it’s at it’s hard to not purchase any Daiwa or Shimano from Japan but I really like the feeling in hand of the Sevin plus I do like trying different brand reels even though I’m not currently in the market for a new reel. Lastly @Delaware Valley Tackle do you have any experience good or bad with this particular reel?

Last fall, no matter how many lures/techniques I tried, the bass were completely focused on hula grubs.  I mean, wow, they were addicted and wanted only that.  So my Seviin/Mojo Trigon combo was used almost exclusively for 2 solid months.

While I can say I was getting bored with throwing the same thing every day, my gear stood the test through dozens of fish I caught (and snags!).  Does the reel perform as well as a $500 Japanese reel?  That's not a fair comparison, but no, it's not as smooth.  But I'd say it's a solid workhorse and wouldn't mind having a few more.

My only "complaint" is that it's developed a slight squeak when reeling. It's barely noticeable.  But when it's quiet out (no boat traffic) and calm (no wind) and you're listening to the birds off in the distance, you notice it.  It kinda creeps up on you like something in the background that you hardly notice.

@Glenn For complete disclosure I don’t have nor do I have the desire for a $500 reel from any brand as I’m pretty price conscious and have no shame in saying so. My comment about the buying JDM was for comparison mainly as I’m aware there is no warranty when doing so which is why I’m interested to see if anyone has had any issues that needed resolving and how they were handled. For comparison I have written several times on here my liking of a particular Piscifun reel and the lack of support for both parts and servicing on the reel. As far as the smoothness of the reel I asked a sales associate about how long the particular reel has been on display as they are manhandled on a daily basis from both children and adults alike including being dropped onto the floor which I have witnessed and his reply was “as far as I know it’s the original display reel since they were first released” which for me speaks to their durability as that particular reel was as smooth as many that I own albeit no “on the water” time and again very comfortable in hand.

If you fish the plastic piscifun reels and are happy then I think you would like one from an OEM like Banax.  I don't think you would have any issue with this St Croix Seven reel or whatever it's called.

@Eric 26 it’s funny you mention it. The last couple outings I haven’t had the numbers I’m looking for and it dawned on me I've kept my spinnerbait setup at home which consists of the Seviin reel. Even though it’s been riding the pine the last couple trips, I haven’t had any issues with it at all. The casts are still smooth with good distance, the brakes are still perfect, and everything is still tight. I haven’t and won’t take the reel apart (I’m 1-2 on taking reels apart 😁).

This is the only issue I have with mine as well. The reel itself feels nice in hand while fishing, and is surprisingly smooth, but the squeak drives me absolutely crazy though and I can't figure out where it's coming from.

I experienced the same thing but with another brand of reel and the culprit turned out to be the AR-bearing, I know cause after replacing AR-B, the squeaks went away.

You can get a SLX, Fuego, or Pro Qualifier for less and they are all aluminum frames, but if you want to try one out and purchase it tell us what you think of it.

I have reels that are both aluminum and graphite frames, and honestly I haven't noticed a significant difference.  I don't know....maybe if I were horsing in halibut or Tuna I'd have a different perspective, but both seem fine for bass.

I don’t know if aluminum or graphite makes a difference.  I used to believe it until my Revo x (I know not high quality) aluminum frame snapped on me years ago.   Never happened with graphite frame reels I used to use before I cared enough about what reels I had.   🤷🏻‍♂️

There is a reason reel manufacturers do not make any of their high end reels out of graphite, having said that any reel could be a dud.
