I didn't have any temps that warm during our 9 day season but we had a couple days around 50+ degrees. Anything above about 50 during the daytime really limits daytime deer movement. Plus you have to worry about a deer spoiling too if you shoot one. 1 Quote

throttleplate Posted November 18, 2023 Posted November 18, 2023 its 7 am saturday and i stepped outside and the frost tickled my nipples, its a warm frost so we are packing the car to go fishing at the dam. First stop scheels for minnows. Hmm wear long johns under my pants or bring a extra pair of cold weather pants to put on for when the sun goes down? Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted November 28, 2023 Super User Posted November 28, 2023 We've been getting HAMMERED with snow for two days now. This is the first significant snow is the season, and it's starting off with a bang ! A foot plus and it's still coming down. Been waiting to clean it up Looks like I'll keep waiting . . . . . Super User gim Posted November 28, 2023 Author Super User Posted November 28, 2023 No snow here, but its cold. 10 degrees when left the house this morning. Exactly what ice fisherman are hoping for - good hard freeze before any snow. Warmer temps on the way later this week though. And not much snow in the forecast either. 1 Quote
Global Moderator 12poundbass Posted November 28, 2023 Global Moderator Posted November 28, 2023 17* here and about 1/2” of snow. The wind is ripping right through me! 🥶 Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted November 28, 2023 Super User Posted November 28, 2023 Cold here and PL-enty of snow. Clearing paths to the Big Dog House and the 'Zone'. (where they do their business) Makes getting around MUCH EASIER. Especially as this stuff starts to add up. It's like living in a snow globe for 4 months. A-Jay Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted November 28, 2023 Super User Posted November 28, 2023 So far all we've gotten is a dusting - even the tips of the grass are sticking up through it. Quote
Super User Jar11591 Posted November 28, 2023 Super User Posted November 28, 2023 Yikes. Now I feel silly for complaining about the few inches we’ve gotten so far. Everything is gone by noon. Nightly lows are really getting down there though. Quote
Super User T-Billy Posted November 28, 2023 Super User Posted November 28, 2023 @A-Jay, you have good taste in hats my friend. 😉 1 1 Quote
Super User casts_by_fly Posted November 28, 2023 Super User Posted November 28, 2023 its awful here. Something like 32 degrees and flurries! That's just not right and I'm not ready for it. Though the 20 mph winds are actually awful. They'll go away tomorrow though and be good for a while. Quote
Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted November 28, 2023 Global Moderator Posted November 28, 2023 And the first day of winter is 3 weeks away Quote
Super User T-Billy Posted November 28, 2023 Super User Posted November 28, 2023 Going muskie fishing tomorrow. Low 20's to start, low 30's to finish. Blowin 15-30. Should be fun. 😂 1 2 Quote

All kinds of people here are giddy that we've had single digit lows the past few nights. They are tooting their horns about "early ice" coming up. 1 Quote

My guide buddy's clients went 10 for 16 yesterday, and 3 for 10 today in conditions similar to what I described above. Hooking 26 musky in two days tends to make the conditions seem not so bad. I sure hope they're still chewing when I get there tomorrow. Gonna be a rough day if they ain't. Quote

Let's take muskie fishing, as you describe it, with the potential to land large fish in a boat using open water fishing tackle to sitting on a bucket over 3 inches of sketchy ice waiting for a palm sized crappie to show up, drinking beer. That's my perspective. 2 Quote

Is that a cry for help or just letting someone know you’ll be lying passed out face down in the snow soon, with no crappie & will need a ride home before dark, if possible? 🤣🤣 2 Quote
Susky River Rat Posted November 28, 2023 Posted November 28, 2023 @T-Billy 26 musky is two-three seasons around here. 1 if you are live scoping them @gimruis I love ice fishing. It’s just so hit and miss here. Season could be a week. Could be a month or none at all. @RipzLipz I think there is more reasons than that to be happy no to live there 1 Quote

My guide buddy said the three today put him at 305 on the season. I'm at 51 and didn't really start fishing for them till August. We don't grow many of the monsters that the big waters up north produce, but we're pretty spoiled numbers wise, and a 50" is a legit possibilty. Quote

Don’t envy you all one bit but you’re prepared for it a bit better for the most part. Certainly more than 4 plows for all of Minneapolis (or whatever it was for Atlanta - that was just hilarious to me). Been up to Ely many times & we asked one of the outfitters where they got all their block ice. He told us they cut it out of the lakes with chainsaws. Asked how they got trucks out to islands for trailering their flat bottoms across into CA & he told us they drove them across the ice. We had no clue but certainly do now. So far this year, we’ve gotten flurries & maybe a dusting that lightly covered rooftops but was gone by afternoon. Won’t hurt my feelings one bit if I don’t have to touch a snow shovel but I probably just jinxed myself by even thinking it.🤣 @T-Billy Not a musky fisherman at all but curious if you’re getting those in lakes or rivers or both. Can’t speak for northern IN but all musky in central & southern IN are stocked, that I’m aware. Quote
