Global Moderator 12poundbass Posted February 6, 2024 Global Moderator Posted February 6, 2024 Here’s a fun little fact (or depressing) about our West Michigan winter. January 21-31: 6 minutes of sunlight Feb 1-5: 1721 minutes of sunlight 😡 Quote
Super User casts_by_fly Posted February 6, 2024 Super User Posted February 6, 2024 @12poundbass same here in NJ this year. Did you pull that data from a website? I'd love to do the same for us. We had a solid 2 weeks of 'grey'. sometimes wet, sometimes foggy, never sunny. Rick Quote

When its warmer in the winter, there's more fog and clouds. It usually means milder, Pacific air. Which is exactly what has occurred this winter in the upper tier of the country (El Nino). Quote

Super User casts_by_fly Posted February 7, 2024 Super User Posted February 7, 2024 You know, I thought this sunshine and slight warming was going to be amazing. My wife is traveling this week and my work week is really light. We're iced off so I could go anywhere. Yesterday I decided to make a quick run to a local pond to try out the new spinning rod setup (it was great). It was 40 and sunny. That's perfect fishing conditions this time of year, right? The steady 3-6 mph wind said a big fat "go home". I thought I was bundled up well enough. A couple layers, fleece lined pants, etc. Didn't matter. I made 2 dozen throws and decided it wasn't worth being out there in that. I swung past another pond on the way home that is a little more sheltered and made a few more casts but its still too cold for me. Both ponds still had skim ice on them (from the night before) so its not as if the water is suddenly warming up. I think I'm going to use today to 'honey do' a few things instead of pulling the boat out. I can clean the boat up, check all of the wiring and batteries, etc before the season kicks off properly. Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted February 7, 2024 Global Moderator Posted February 7, 2024 We are finally getting some of that warmth the northerners wouldn’t share in January. It’s very nice thank you Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted February 8, 2024 Super User Posted February 8, 2024 The many seasons of northern Michigan. The Spring of Deception started on Monday, but it really cranks today and Friday (2/8-2/9/24). We'll be Enjoying record warmth! A-Jay 1 Quote
Super User gim Posted February 12, 2024 Author Super User Posted February 12, 2024 Here are some of the snow deficits around the state here this winter. Pretty remarkable considering that many of these locations set snow records (or were close to them) just last winter. Quote
Super User casts_by_fly Posted February 12, 2024 Super User Posted February 12, 2024 I was afraid I was going to have to siphon the gas out of the snow blower to store it for the summer. I don't think I have to worry about that now. We're in the 8-10 swatch and not far from the 10-15 swatch. Like the last time, a little change to the south and we could see a lot. As it is its going to be a lot to sort out first thing in the morning tomorrow. 1 Quote

Super User casts_by_fly Posted February 13, 2024 Super User Posted February 13, 2024 i just finished here a little bit ago. I've cleared twice and it was 6-8" each time, so 12-14" all in. Its warmed up a little bit here so the snow's falling off the trees now and the snow on the ground is wet and compressing. Its going to be around a while as we've got nothing in the forecast to melt it anytime soon. Good luck to anyone who didn't already clear their driveways. This melting is making it super heavy snow and 14" of wetness is a rough shoveling day. 1 Quote
Super User gim Posted February 14, 2024 Author Super User Posted February 14, 2024 Reasonable chance of measurable snow here tonight in the Twin Cities. If we are able to eclipse 2.5 inches by morning, it will be the biggest snowfall of the winter. Right now they are saying anywhere from an inch to 4 inches. Maybe I'll be using my snow blower this season after all. 1 Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted February 14, 2024 Super User Posted February 14, 2024 We may get a little snow as well. A-Jay Quote
Super User casts_by_fly Posted February 14, 2024 Super User Posted February 14, 2024 @A-Jay- do you still have snow on the ground or did it melt off with the not so wintry temps you've had? You certainly had a lot of it to start with. Quote

Global Moderator 12poundbass Posted February 15, 2024 Global Moderator Posted February 15, 2024 We got around 5” in three hours. It started at 6. My son was on the bus for a total of 15 minutes and they cancelled school. My normal drive of 35 minutes to the office took my just under two hours. The snow has stopped and the roads are pretty much clear again. Wild weather to start the day! 1 Quote

Super User A-Jay Posted February 16, 2024 Super User Posted February 16, 2024 We've got 7 or 8 inches down now with a Winter Weather Advisory running. Expect snow on & off all day today & overnight, so we'll be looking at a foot or so. I'm waiting until most of it's over before commencing clean up operations. Extended forecast is all over the place next week with cold, warm, rain and then more cold. A-Jay Quote
Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted February 16, 2024 Global Moderator Posted February 16, 2024 Gonna be cold here this weekend but there rest is decent/normal. Quote
