Super User casts_by_fly Posted January 25, 2024 Super User Posted January 25, 2024 It’s upper 50’s here today. It rained all last night and will pick up again tonight. A local posted a picture of my ice out lake and there is ice, but there are also significant openings where water flows in. It’s above 40 for the next 48 hours and above freezing for the next 72. I might be fishing next week. Quote
Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted January 26, 2024 Global Moderator Posted January 26, 2024 The weatherman had a rare perfect prediction, 65 and sunny today Quote

The snow/slush is still 6-8 inches deep so their feet aren't making it to the turf yet. But it's coming . . The mud room is well stocked with 'brown' dog towels. We finally smartened up and got that color to start with. No doubt they end up that way eventually anyway. A-Jay 1 1 Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted January 29, 2024 Super User Posted January 29, 2024 I can just imagine what Tank and Kya would look like brown instead of tan and cream. 😃 Quote

It's ugly and we usually end up giving her a total wash down. I'll post a pic after her next event. It's all fun and games until it takes an hour to clean and dry the little darling. A-Jay 2 2 Quote
Super User casts_by_fly Posted January 31, 2024 Super User Posted January 31, 2024 We got more snow last night, but its the prettiest snow I've seen yet. About 1-2" of the stickiest snow ever. its clung to all of the tree branches and trunks. Its covered the ground such that you can just barely see the grass tips above it. But on sidewalks, driveways, and roads it just melted on contact. I have to say, I thought i was done with snow for the year, but this one isn't so bad. rick Quote

Super User gim Posted February 1, 2024 Author Super User Posted February 1, 2024 It reached a balmy 55 degrees here today. Shattered the old January record which was 46 degrees. I saw people in shorts walking their dog, kids riding their bikes, my neighbors were on their deck grilling, teenagers playing tennis, and a bunch of motorcycles on the road. This is all happening during what is traditionally the coldest time of year here. Thanks El Niño 1 Quote

Super User DitchPanda Posted February 1, 2024 Super User Posted February 1, 2024 This is the craziest winter I've seen in the 22 years I've lived here. Had a week or so of super cold weather otherwise its been very warm. Also we've had like 30ish inches of snow but almost 25 of it came in a 9 day period. I haven't set foot on the ice yet this winter, and with the weather forecast we have I likely won't. Had a buddy who ice fishes religiously tell me he got on the ice the 1st time this winter on January 9th and it was still sketchy...he was out yesterday and it's sketchy again. If the weather holds I may be fishing the river next week for walleye. Gonna be 55 so I'm heading to a buddies this evening for grilled ribeyes and baked potatoes. 1 Quote

The only difference here is that we didn't get any snow. Those snow falls you speak of missed us to the south. We did have a massive storm on Christmas, but it was all rain. Over 3 inches of it, which, if was snow, would have been approximately 3 feet of snow depending on moisture content. The weirdest thing for me is that every time I check the forecast, nothing has changed. Its just mild without any snow as far as they can predict. You'd think at some point we'd at least return to more "seasonable" winter weather. Apparently not. 1 Quote

Super User gim Posted February 2, 2024 Author Super User Posted February 2, 2024 Happy Groundhog Day. Apparently Phil the Groundhog did NOT see his shadow, so winter is over. I think that may be the first time in my lifetime that he didn't see his shadow here in MN... 1 Quote
