throttleplate Posted March 13, 2024 Posted March 13, 2024 Went out exploring and fishing yesterday, 60 degrees and sunny. checked out 2 dams on minnesota south dakota border and talked to a couple fisherman saying the drought in south dakota is bad. I took some pics of white rock dam which has a rich history of great fishing for numerous species and i could walk across the river it feeds into, the Bois de Sioux river. 1 Quote
Super User gim Posted March 13, 2024 Author Super User Posted March 13, 2024 Not good @throttleplate. Gonna need a monsoon of rain this spring. Quote
Super User T-Billy Posted March 13, 2024 Super User Posted March 13, 2024 My local extended forecast is in agreement @gimruis. It's been really tough lately, but Chad and his client put four good fish in the boat yesterday. Two were really nice. If he does well today and tomorrow, I may get a case of muskie fever and burn a couple sick days Fri and Sat before the cold rolls in. Time is running out on putting some prespawn fat girls in the boat. Surface temps are in the high 40's, even cracking 50 up in the backs of creeks. Contrary to everything I've read/watched about prespawn muskie, he's getting them on big glides and pounder bulldawgs lately. I've got a couple of the 18" 12oz Assault Eels on the way. My hands and elbows hurt just thinking about chucking them all day. 😂🤦♂️ Edit to add: That map is looking good for @ol'crickety to start lighting up the Latest Catch thread. Go get 'em Katie!!! 1 1 Quote

The muskie are saying nope, ya wanna catch me, you're gonna pay the price chucking half pound glides and 3/4 to 1 pound rubber. Gonna have to put my big girl panties on and break out the tube of voltaren I reckon. 😂 1 Quote
Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted March 14, 2024 Global Moderator Posted March 14, 2024 They pushed our cold prediction back from tomorrow to Monday and Tuesday Quote
Global Moderator 12poundbass Posted March 18, 2024 Global Moderator Posted March 18, 2024 I go outside this morning to start the truck to let it warm up since it was in the low 30’s. When I shut it off Friday I had it on cool and the dash vents on, this morning I had to crank the heat and defrost. Low 30’s and snow this morning. Gotta love this time of year getting jerked around like this. Quote
Super User gim Posted March 18, 2024 Author Super User Posted March 18, 2024 Two systems are expected to reach the area later this week. Thursday night (top graphic) and Sunday night into Monday (bottom graphic). If these totals are correct, we will receive more snow in 4 days than we have all winter here. Quote

Still questionable - Hazardous Weather Outlook detail has this "Chances for additional rounds of snow are growing for the weekend, but again the exact locations and amounts are still uncertain." 1 Quote

Same thing will happen in March and April too. we got 2 feet of snow on March 12, 1993. Yes you read that correctly, 2 feet. we still have to go thru redbud winter, dogwood winter, blackberry winter, and probably a few more that I’m forgetting 😂 I’m so shocked 1 Quote
throttleplate Posted March 19, 2024 Posted March 19, 2024 Yes i live in fargo nd, but i am rooting hard for eastern south dakota to get tons of snow so to fill up lake Traverse, which will then flow north into mud lake and into the bois de sioux river so i can fish the dam at white rock which was a puddle 8 days ago. According to @gimruisweather map fargo isnt expected to get much snow. HELP THIS DAM 1 Quote

Way north bass guy Posted March 20, 2024 Posted March 20, 2024 We went from all the snow completely gone two days ago, to this now. Probably got a foot in total, but it’s already packed down a fair bit with the sun this afternoon. Still don’t like it one bit, but it should be gone by next week. 1 Quote

That's what you get for living 'way up North'. FWIW: You're not that much further north in latitude than we are here. (44.97N for Minneapolis, 45.21N for you - that works out to about 27 klicks - which is way less than the distance N to S of our metro area) Quote

The bigger system arrives on Sunday. A massive, slow-moving low pressure system out of the Rockies that could be a 2 day mixture of heavy wet snow, rain, or both. I've been watching the models on this one and the newest runs show most of it falling as rain, which would greatly lower the snow total. If it does fall as snow, it's gonna be the heavy wet crap. You know, the stuff that's like concrete. Comes out of the snow blower chute like ketchup. Quote
