I’m an upstate NYer. Been here all my life. It’s my home and I love it here. I’ll never live anywhere else. But d**n these north country winters really suck sometimes. Couple inches of wet snow yesterday and sub-20-degree temps last night equal a lot of windshield scraping this morning. The best way to start the day! I’m thankful I’m no longer under contract for snow removal though.

we got our first real snow today.  It was enough to dust the ground in most places.  If you're hunting its just enough to show movement on the far hill but not enough to have a solid white background to work with.  Its almost entirely gone already.

We had the torrential rains on Sunday that most had the past few days.  It was almost 60 degrees with that rain.  I took advantage of that and did some outside stuff that would have been miserable in the cold.  And we're back down to just above freezing today with 20 mph sustained winds.  And getting colder.

It was 22 degrees here yesterday morning.  This morning the temps is around 35 degrees.  Thursday and Friday the morning temps are going to be in the low to mid-40s before rain moves in.  I wish the weather would make up its mind.

that's warmer than we're getting here in NJ.  We're clear and 25-45 degrees except when a storm rolls in at which point its rainy for 2 days and 40-60 depending on the storm. I can't complain.  Instead it could be (1) bitter cold, (2) feet of snow, or (3) ice.  I'll take this 'coming out of winter like February' weather now.  Its only going to improve from here.

29 degrees right now here in northern Virginia.  Heading out soon to continue the rehabbing of my boat.  It’s at my buddies who has a heated garage.  We’ve pulled the seats, emptied the gas tanks, pulled the lower unit, new impeller, and today we start on the fuel filter system. Since it’s a Yamaha 2 stroke, it’s got a lot of fuel filters plus 2 water separators and a vst filter.  Next big task is to pull the injectors and take them in for cleaning and flow testing.

Not much winter weather here and hardly any sun either. As of yesterday we have received 16% of available sunshine for the month of December. 😎

Warm and rainy here. Interestingly, some Facebook memories of late have us in shorts this time of year and in one  was fishing from the kayak with bare feet. I remember once when I was a kid we went to my grandmother's (less than a 1/4 mile away) for Christmas dinner. It got so warm I walked back home and changed into shorts. It reached 90 that day.

We had a hurricane run through a week ago yesterday. If someone told me I’d be raking leaves today in a t shirt in low 50’s degree temps the day after Christmas I would have laughed.

Christmas day1982 we had 62 degree weather. My ma took a picture of me hand - washing my Fiat X-1/9....fun car when it ran.

Crazy Mild temperatures prevail here, but will be accompanied by damp, drizzly, and foggy conditions. This will carry into tonight as well, with temperatures slowly beginning their downward trend as lows dip into the 30s.  Still almost 20 degrees warmer than the average for northern MI.

I'm thinking about getting ahead of the game

and just going ahead and dropping my spring load of lawn fertilizer now !

Funny this comes up 2 days after Christmas. 

But I follow the Scotts Lawn care programs pretty closely.

Including a grub killer application to help control the vibrant mole population.

 Four feedings a year including many many tree spikes, seems to work well.

 

 

Application timing seems be an important consideration

Gorgeous lawn, @A-Jay. I've also used the Scott's Lawn Care program. However, after having my soil tested and discovering that it's severely deficient in organic matter, I add the composted manure too. I also mulch my grass and leaves to add even more organic matter. It's all working. When I bought my home 2.5 years ago, the "lawn" was either dirt or crabgrass. So, I sowed grass seed and it's grown amazingly well in the amended soil. I have a big lawn, so it's a work in progress, but most of the front is done. I'm also simultaneously building flowerbeds, raised beds, and a Japanese garden, which was tough in 2023 when I was anemic and didn't know it. Your blue spruce is perfect.

We have an over abundance of poplar, birch, maple and Oak trees on and around the property.  We mulch the grass year round as well as much of the Organic matter from above. Most years the acorns are wicked bad.
