Super User Catt Posted November 21, 2006 Super User Posted November 21, 2006 Which is preferred and why? Front drag or Rear drag :-/ Quote
Deuceu72 Posted November 21, 2006 Posted November 21, 2006 Personally, I would never buy a spinning reel with a rear drag. I cant really tell you the why of it, maybe it's because I have always used front drag reels. I just know I feel more comfortable with the drag on the front. Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted November 21, 2006 Super User Posted November 21, 2006 The front drag models have a larger surface which in turn relates to a stronger drag. Quote
Guest DavidGreen Posted November 21, 2006 Posted November 21, 2006 Front drags work when the spool is twisted on the axle. In rear drag reels, the spool has to help twist the axle, and then that twist is transferred to the rear drag pads. It takes more torque to turn the spool and axle in the rear of the reel than to turn just the spool. Meaning the front drag reels are more accurately set then a rear drag reel, and smother working.
