Isn't it about time they designed one?

Posted

I agree that it is about time for G Loomis to get in the game. BFS appears here to stay and it is a growing segment. Many of the other US rod companies have already released some very good products (Dobyns, Phenix, Cashion, Kistler, to name a few).

What weight lures do you want to throw?

I don't throw very light stuff with mine. I do use a GLX 842 mbr rod with a Daiwa Alphas Air tw for 1/16oz Neds up to 3/16oz shaky heads, and it's fantastic. Just curious to see what Loomis would put forth.

I have the 802C NRX+ JWR paired with a Steez CT and I would consider this almost a BFS rod. I think if they came out with a rod and just put BFS on it, it would sell. Maybe it's just a path they don't want to go down at this point. Besides, there are several offerings from Shimano labeled BFS but they run similar in weight range, which is just a guide to me, as the 842C and the 802C.

They used to kinda have one, the CR721c.  It's not amazing below ~3/16oz, but it's a great little rod for poppers and smaller plastics in open-ish water.

I forgot about that one. I think they touted it as a Shap Rap rod.

I use an IMX 781 with a Shimano Ci4 1000 throw 1/64oz and an IMX CBR 781 with a Daiwa Tatula  1000 throw to throw 1/32oz. I’ve been doing this for years, before BFS became popular

G Loomis has never been a me too kind of company. Heck it took them 7 or 8 years to put out a split grip after everyone else had them.

Check out the specs on the NRX inshore line.

also they used to make trout trolling rods.  They were simply casting models of the trout spinning line.

I have the CR 841 7’ ultra light. 2-5 lb  1/32-1/4

It's a fun little rod, though I wish the guides were a little less chunky.  If it had a springier tip it would be ideal for small poppers.

You should check out the Kistler Hunt BFS series.  The 7' hits that Goldilock's Zone as a kind of do all rod..... stiff tip, soft in the middle, short but powerful handle and really good sensitivity.

Another one, a fuzz lighter, is the Megabass P5 Siglett.  It has a stinger tip, carbon I think.  Fun rod but not one where you are pulling fish from cover or putting a big hook set on them.

True, but this works to our advantage sometimes too:

they still have yet to put EVA foam grips on any of their rods.

Thank God for that.

I prefer a much shorter rod for poppers, 6' is the ideal.  I am circling the drain over buying a P5 Pop-X rod, I have been holding off but now it seems like there are a few positive reviews out there.

The 841 imx-pro cbr fits the bfs crank niche.  I want, but don't need one.

The 6'6" 781 c looks cool. What I'd like to see is an IMX-Pro 851c JWR. That would be a killer rod, if it existed .

I'm very close to ordering that 7' kistler bfs rod, what do you use it for mainly?

Anything 1/4oz total weight and below.  So far it's been a great rod.

Sawgrass rods makes a casting version of the drop shot rod and the specs match up with a Light power. It's not a G Loomis, but a NFC blank, so close enough. I was going to get one but I was more interested in my next rod being an UL for crappie so I picked up the 6'6 Authentic last week.

I kind of think Loomis would make a casting version of a DS rod before marketing it as a BFS rod.

I got an NRX Plus inshore 841c and I really line it. Paired with an Aldebaren BFS to me it’s almost perfect

Aldebaren BFS on NRX Plus 842c works great with light Neds and 1/10 oz 2.75 coffee tubes. Unreal how these little baits cast on this set up and have a little backbone for bigger fish than on lighter Inshore NRX Plus 841c. Both setups are great

I didn't know about the 841c. I have been using my GLX 842 mbr with an Alphas Air, and it's a killer setup for light stuff. I use 3/32 Neds, 1/8 shaky heads, and grubs on it and it's fantastic. Is that 841 like and MBR taper?
