I got a $100 gift card for Cabelas and I need a good spinning reel. I want to use it as a good all around setup for plastics. DS, finesse, t-rig, c-rig. All that stuff. Could you also recomend a good rod and line. I have been looking at the "Yo-Zuri Hybrid Ultra Soft", I hear good things about it.

I have no idea on the rod to finish the whole kit up with.

I agree on the reel, best spinning reel for under $100 is the symetre.

For a rod, depending on your price range, i would sugjest one of the shimano rods.  If you budget is over $140 then look in to the loomis and st. croix rods.

Line, good choice.

PFLUEGER MEDALIST' check it out you may be able to get it with a rod combo for 99 bucks

Acyually I would get a PFLUEGER PRESIDENT, LBH turned me on to these and I have to say they are great reels. I dont believe the graphite body makes any difference like it does on a bait casting reel IMHO> I just went over to bait casting  and the only spinning rig I kept is a President #35 on a 6'6" St Croix rod SWEET  ;)

The Shimano Symetre is a very good reel for $79, but for $120 you could get a Stradic which I think is the best value in the Shimano lineup. I purchased a couple of Stradics in 1997 that were serviced (for the first time) by ReelMech last spring. They are better reels today than they were when they were brand new. No parts have ever been replaced and they have performed flawlessly throughout the years.

I think you should keep an eye on the Flea Market section for your rod. There are often some great deals there. If you can find a G.Loomis SJR 783 or SJR 843 in your price range that would be ideal. Otherwise, I suggest a St. Croix Avid AS70MF.

I just got back from Cabelas and I looked at the "symetre'' and the "stradic". The symetre I looked at seemed to not be as smooth all around as the stradic but it was a very nice reel. I ended up going with the Stradic because of that reason. But I also bought the symetre for a backup. Thanks for all the help guys.

I use to prefer Shimano reels until I tried Daiwa. IMHO, Capricorn (Prodigy) at $69-99 is superior to Stradic, and Exceler at $59 is superior to Symetre.

What ever you choose stay away from an Abu-Garcia Cardinal, Love Ambassaduer hate Cardinal! Bent the shaft on a new one this July on a mess of Spanish! I want the Pflueger myself.
