basser27 Posted October 21, 2023 Posted October 21, 2023 Have a fury 703 I want to use for 3/8oz chatterbaits. I know it’s prob a little light but can I make it work? Quote
FrnkNsteen Posted October 21, 2023 Posted October 21, 2023 I have a Fury 703 and I like it. Might be a little light, but a 1/4oz bait with a plastic trailer would probably work ok. If you start jumping up to 3/8 or 1/2oz, it might get to be a little much. If I remember right, a 703c is rated 1/4 - 3/4oz, so keep total weight at 1/2oz or less and you should be ok. Just go easy on your casts and try it! Quote
Super User Boomstick Posted October 21, 2023 Super User Posted October 21, 2023 It's manageable in clear water but not ideal with a 3/8oz chatterbait and a light trailer, but I'd step up to a 704C which will throw larger trailers or even 1/2oz chatterbaits and some grass. You will be overloading the rod a little, so don't try to bomb cast it. 1 Quote
jbrew73 Posted October 21, 2023 Posted October 21, 2023 (edited) 1/4oz plus plastic is where I rate that rod. Give it a shot and see if it works. Edited October 23, 2023 by jbrew73 1 Quote

Yeah a 1/4oz weight with a senko seems to be about as high as I’d ideally go. It throws them nicely weightless or with lighter weights too. i have used my kid’s Sierra with 3/8oz spinnerbaits and no trailer and it’s passable. Quote
JackstrawIII Posted October 23, 2023 Posted October 23, 2023 I have that rod. It will be fine. I use it for jigs of that size all the time. Quote
Super User Darth-Baiter Posted October 23, 2023 Super User Posted October 23, 2023 the Fury 703 is the rod in my arsenal that doenst know what it wants to be when it grows up. i throw chatterbaits on it all the time. a chatter isnt a slack line techique, so i dont worry about sensitivity. it hucks the chatters, and the fish seem to stay pinned. no issues. i'll snip off the chatter and go to a 1/2 jig..well, i used to. now it is backup on jigs. i have a blindspot for that rod, since it was the first rod i bought as an adult.
