Super User RoLo Posted November 14, 2006 Super User Posted November 14, 2006 It wasn't long ago that we discussed the COST of quality control and R&D, the topic being Lucky Craft. I guess this post represents the flipside of the equation, as it involves the Bass Pro Shops house brand. It's no big deal, but it's so pathetic that it's humorous. I recently recieved a shipment from Bass Pro Shops. While I was shaking my head over the length of the "back-order" list, my wife didn't agree with one of the items. She said to me, "These sinkers look heavier than 1/16 oz". I agreed with her and threw one of the sinkers on my grain scale (No, I don't smoke pot, I reload my own cartridges), sure enough, both BPS-Brand 100-pack sinkers marked "1/16 oz" were in fact, 1/8 oz sinkers :-/ : :-/ Just a heads-up fellows, don't even believe what appears on the label, and verify the veracity of everything. Super User senile1 Posted November 14, 2006 Super User Posted November 14, 2006 Good point, Roger. I've often wondered the same thing myself. I usually check the size closely, but not always. It's best to make sure you're getting what you paid for. Quote
Super User flechero Posted November 14, 2006 Super User Posted November 14, 2006 This is not due to Bass Pro in particular, I've had errors with all of them. I have changed my buying habits over the past year... I no longer order anything that I can pick up in person. There is nothing I hate more than sending stuff back. With a little care in planning and a feel for how often you need/buy staple items, it's pretty easy to keep up with. I've just had such bad luck in mail/on-line orders that it's not worth the hassle to me anymore. Between work and visiting family, I'm in Austin or Dallas at least every few weeks so the need to order is quite rare. (I live in a small town and only have a walmart for tackle or an Academy in the next ctown) Quote
HomersTomaco Posted November 14, 2006 Posted November 14, 2006 this is true for any company, especially one that size. I've had rapalas in the wrong boxes marked different colors, wrong size jig heads, different size hooks etc. That is why its always better to buy stuff in a store instead of online. Quote

Barely 15 minutes from Austin. Also, if you make it another hour, BPS just opened here in San Antonio. Plastik Quote
Triton9 Posted November 15, 2006 Posted November 15, 2006 i've had the same problem, so i don't use BPS brand weights anymore after that. Quote
Guest the_muddy_man Posted November 15, 2006 Posted November 15, 2006 This only goes to prove what the noted philosopher AVID always says SIZE MATTERS Quote
Super User FishTank Posted November 15, 2006 Super User Posted November 15, 2006 After I read this post, I had to check my tackle box and examine the BPS weights I have. Well sure enough, I have a box of 3/16 oz bullet weigths that have a mix of 1/4 and 3/16 oz. I also noticed the holes a poorly punched. Thanks for the heads up. I'll probably not buy these again. I do go to Cabela's sometimes... but just north of Austin is a Sportsman's Warehouse and they (that particular store) has a much better than average fishing section so most of my needs are met there. I go to BPS when I'm in Dallas. Sorry Rolo, no hijack intended. Quote
Tom Bass Posted November 16, 2006 Posted November 16, 2006 Rolo, It's funny you should mention this. I just got back from BPS a little while ago and while there I found packages of #2 line locks / clips in packages labeled #1. This was not a mistake made at the BPS store. It was a mistake made at the manufacturing and/or labeling facility. The clips were made in China. I have no idea where they are packaged but I have a feeling they were packaged for BPS in China. It's my opinion that low dollar items like clips and sinkers are not high on the QC inspection list for BPS, Cabelas, Gander Mountain, etc... But, it is my opinion that they should be, especially for people who order by mail. Tom Quote

In fact, the big tackle dealers only carry this stuff as a marketing necessity, because if they can't provide One-Stop Shopping, they can't corner the market. Roger Quote
