Bean Counter Posted November 14, 2006 Posted November 14, 2006 I've tried a lot of lines on spinning gear and always gone back to Stren original. It just seems to work for me. I use Trilene XL on most of my bait casters. I use braid on my jig rod and florocarbon on my Senko rod. Quote
Super User RoLo Posted November 14, 2006 Super User Posted November 14, 2006 PowerPro Braid (20 to 50-lb) BTW: 8-lb Yo-Zuri Hybrid Ultra Soft is 0.011" in diameter, 30-lb PowerPro Braid is 0.011" in diameter Roger Quote
DEISWERTH Posted November 14, 2006 Posted November 14, 2006 Avid, I like your last few lines.... think I'm going to copy them 8-) Doug Quote
Guest avid Posted November 15, 2006 Posted November 15, 2006 Deiswerth - thanks. sometimes I get a little melodramatic, but the sentiment is honest. I bought p-line cxx 6lb. I looked for yo-zuri hybrid ultra soft and could not find it locally. Can't wait for a mail order. Have heard good things about the p-line so am excited about #1 - Being able to start fishing again even if in a highly limited way and #2 - Using a category of line I never tried before (copolymer) Braid is the most limp, and I use it all the time, but as I stated in an earlier post, I am going to take the "lemon" of being orderd to fish for breif periods with light gear, and turn it into the "lemonaide" of learning how to dropshot" Wish me luck guys, and thanks for all the input avid Quote
nboucher Posted November 15, 2006 Posted November 15, 2006 Good luck, Avid. Get that wing to work one cast at a time, and let us know how you like the rig/line. Quote
Super User senile1 Posted November 15, 2006 Super User Posted November 15, 2006 Avid stated: I am a bass fisherman - It's what I do. In some significant ways, it defines who I am.If I have to use spinning gear, so be it. If I have to use a cane pole - then that's ok too. If I can't fish at all but have a grand child or willing partner who will wheel me to the edge of the lake and put a rod in my hand, then I will be truly blessed. "One more cast" avid I like your attitude, avid. Hang in there, Good Buddy. I feel the same, but I'm not going through the tribulations that you are. I still have good limbs, but I agree with your ideas. To sum it up: I fish . . . . . and then I die. There is no intermediate period between the two. Quote
ThomasL Posted November 15, 2006 Posted November 15, 2006 Avid,i've found that strens magnathin works well on spinning reels but this year i started using maxima perfection that claims to be made for spinning reels and that stuff is strong and has better handling than the magnathin! Quote
Craw Posted November 15, 2006 Posted November 15, 2006 Avid, years ago I read Kevin VanDam's first book, "Bass Strategies". At the time I found it an excellent read and would recommend it to anyone. In the book he praised using silicone spray on freshly spooled reels(spinning and casting) to aid in line management. I have used this technique now for a long time and I've been very impressed with how manageable the line becomes when treated with silicone. It's very good with casting reels but absolutely super on spinning. Anyway..monofilament is all I ever use and the silicone will make any brand I've ever used perform very well. I even like to overspool my spinning reels and once the silicone is applied, the line will not jump off the spool upon opening the bail. Quote
phisher_d Posted November 16, 2006 Posted November 16, 2006 Have you considered using a braided line with a fluoro leader for dropshotting? I use 20 lb powerpro with a 6 or 8 lb silver thread flourocarbon leader. I'm not a drop-shot expert but it works for me... The drop-shot rig is notorious for line twist, but a braided mainline solves the problem. Just a thought... ps. get well soon Quote
Pa Angler Posted November 16, 2006 Posted November 16, 2006 I use McCoy's Flo Blue for mono and Cabela's Ripcord Si Plus for braid I have had very good preformance out of both these lines. Chow Quote
Bean Counter Posted November 16, 2006 Posted November 16, 2006 I was in a local tackle shop yesterday that is owned by one of the most knowledgable fishermen I know. He swears that Suffix is the best mono for Spinning reels. I bought a spool to try it out. I will let you know how it is after I use it this weekend. Quote

Sufix makes terrific fishing line and I recently tried Sufix Siege on my spinning gear. It boasts every asset you could ask of a line except one, it has "too much memory", a Big No-No for the spinning angler. Braid has zero memory and causes zero problems. Any problems I might have with braid are caused by me, not the line. And yes, I can get into trouble with any line Roger Quote
